Stuart, have upgraded the tyres on my '95 to 225/50 SO2 Pole Positions & am very happy with them. Handling is better if anything, especially in the wet. Cost was about £90 each including fitting & balancing.

Not that I've noticed. If you're thinking for going for SO2's, I'm pretty sure you cant get them in 205/55 anymore anyway.

Just realised, got the cost wrong..... The 205 fronts were £90, think the 225 rears were about £110. Only got a 4litre....

4.0L PAS'd Chimaera. Came to me with 205/50 and 235/50 on it. I've since replaced them with 225/50 and 245/45s. No problems and it looks much better. Since it's only a weedy 4.0L it's now got plenty of grip. ... Unless you're in a snowy carpark like I was today. I had to stop 'losing grip' as the girlfriend kept screaming :-) Ended up washing the car twice in one day ... not a chore. T/.
