Can anyone help me out here?
I've mislaid my Bible and need to investigate the heater blower fan, I think it's probably seized or something.
Can anyone tell me where it's located and how easy it is to get at/fettle?

TIA

The main blower fan is in the N/S inner wing at the front of the car with access via the bulb changing inspection hatch. Quote page 291 of the bible.

Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear though.
it.
Another job for the boys at Fernies.

What I was expecting was, "It's easy, stick your hand under the dash etc. etc. etc." Oh Well.

>>Edited to add, mine doesn't have the opening in the wheel arch. I presume it's in the pert in front of the wheel??

Most of the earlier (pre 96) cars don't IIRC. What usually happens is that the dealer creates one when work needs done in that area.

If it's any help whatsoever, I've a 93 Chim and my blower isn't where the Bible says it is - mines next to the battery. But if that's what SHPub meant then it's not that clear as I can access it via a cut out just to the left of the battery location, which is not at the front of the car, nor near the "blub inspection flap" (which I don't have either ???).

But I can just lie down head towards the battery and my hand just touches the blower.......that's what you wanted to hear ??

All very clear ?? Hope so.

Well Tonyrec completed.

How the do you get to it?

It looks hidden in the depths of the dash behind where the dials are and vents by the gear stick, is it a dash off jobbie?

Did you get the blower sorted? Mine squeals on speed 3, and does nothing on 1 or 2. I haven't managed to get access to it yet, despite reading the bible. Mines an April'96 too! I t sounds like an inspection hatch needs to be cut out, but where?

Hi Macone,
It sounds as if your Chim is similar to mine but I can't see the fan, only a lot of ducting where you say. I have the same problem as 'bucket' and it sounds as if I really need to get the fan out to fix or replace it. Did you actually get your fan out?

The only likely place I can see for the fan is under a cutout behind the airflow meter under the bonnet on the passenger side. Anyone know what is behind this panel?

Hi Tyreka,

Just been down, headfirst. Two things.....First, I can turn the blower impeller with my fingers, so I can at least see if the motor is free to run/turn. The second thing is.....I am glad mine works!!!.....I am sorry but, I did not like to pull back all the carpet in order to see the full installation. It went in, it looks like, after the body was bonded, so presume it will come out.

Sorry also, but I can't answer your " ...is under a cutout behind the airflow meter under the bonnet on the passenger side." 'cause I haven't looked there ??

Have fun.

Hi Trev,
Thanks for the response. If you can see/touch the fan impeller then I'm definitely looking in the wrong place!

I'll have another go when I can get out to the garage without getting drenched.

Not yet, but I'm taking it in for some other work soon and will get them to look at it then. Weather is too bad to start pulling the car apart now
