With all the pipework under the bonet and having suffered cooling problems I have been recommended (by a friend of mine with a 4.6 V8 MG) to wrap minfolds in exhaust wrap. As the exhaust travels fairly close to the sump this might help overall engine temp and as a result cause me not to stare at the temp gauge everytime I come to a stop in a queue of traffic.

My main concern is the cat (or cats as I've been told I have 3!!)and whether wrapping them up will damage/reduce their life.

Any thought??

I use the stuff on my Austin-Healey and swear by it, you can actually touch the manifold when the engine's running (don't know Why I do this tho' )
But, when I purchased the exhaust, the maker told me they didn't recommend it as it raises the temp of the steel to much higher than they would recommend and shortens its lifespan. So it could kill your cat? poor pussy.
