Tempertamental Speedometer
Discussion
Can anyone tell me why parts (repairs or new) seem to take an age to arrive:
My 1999 Chimaera 4.0 went to have a winter service and some minor remedial repairs sorted out (Novenber 2001), one being my speedo was not kicking in till 20/30 mph. It is now 8th March 2002 and the car is STILL in the garage waiting for the return of the Speedometer from repair.
Am I missing something or is an anolouge speedometer like hens teeth and very hard to come buy or am I being messed about by my garage(TVR approved).

This really is dreadful.
I am astonished by the fact that they havent even had the courtesy to respond to a letter (although saying that TVR didnt to mine). What has happened to customer service? One would have thought that TVR's having the little niggles that they do PW would be cracking a whip over the dealer network saying that customer service is paramount.
How much would a quick call to you have cost them? They're slitting their own throats doing this sort of thing.
Matt.

Filmstar,
After my speedo packed up totally in February, I was told by my dealer that there were no spares (1994 car) and the speedo had to go for repair. It took about 2 weeks the first time and about 8 days the second time as the first repair was not 100% sucessful - 5 months is an outrage.

I'd be very interested to know which dealership you're having this trouble with.
I wonder if it's the same one that has so far taken the garage 3 weeks to do a service and a bit of paint touch up... and never once calling me to let me know what the delay is...? I don't think they are allowed to make outgoing calls or something...

What is this with absolutely ridiculous repair times?
I know a lot of you run your TVR's as 'weekend fun' but I would wager a lot of them are used as daily drivers. Mine is for one, and I have a speedo fault. If my dealer kept my car for 5 days let alone 5 months I would be completely and utterly stuffed. 3 weeks for a service and touch up is equally ridiculous, its not like there can be any technical reasons, there are bodyshops out there topping 250 repairs a day.
What did ever happen to the Customer comes first retail mentality? It seems to have disappeared never to return.

filmstar - could you go into your PistonHeads user profile settings and tick the box marked "Members email [ ] allows other members to contact you via the forums etc. (your email address isn't revealed)"
because I'd be interested if the dealer was the same one as I've had experiences with, but I'd rather email you directly if I may.
Ted - perhaps we could have this defaulted to ON for new users with the box being opt out rather than opt in?

Hear, Hear!
But there are two people in my office with similar situations (only difference is that because they are company cars, they end up with a hire car instead).
One is a Honda (S2000), been running on three cylinders, gets "fixed" and then breaks down again and again, the other an Audi. Can you believe that the Audi was off the road for weeks because they couldn't get an indicator to work properly and then didn't have a relay in the entire country!!!!
Thought this link might be of interest, given the topic of this thread:

Yes!
I used to work for a major Audi agency. When the A8 was launched we had every single one in the country, there were about 30 of them or so. When the cars went out to the press and the like they would inevitably get the odd knock here and there. No one had bothered mentioning that you need special equipment etc to work on ally chassis's so although we had all the cars and one of the highest volume bodyshops in Europe we still had to send them outside to an approved bodyshop to get them repaired! The bloody stupidity of it!
