Petrol fumes.....
Discussion
I have a 1993 4 litre and I have a 'petrol fumes' smell when driving (not when ticking over stationary). This started out of the blue.
I can't see any leaks (even when applying throttle) and it doesn't seem anywhere near as bad with the roof on.
Wondered whether it might be some breather pipe or something. Also, it started since I started using Optimax (likely to be a co-incidence and not sure what the previous owner used). Happens no matter how much (or little) is in the tank....
Anyone had anything similar ?
Thanks

I've got the same problem with my new Griffith 500. Dealer can't find any leaks and nor can I. They apprantly rerouted the breather pipe but it's still the same. not there all the time - mostly when I'm stuck in traffic. I've just tightened the nuts on the sender gauge as suggested. They didn't feel loose but they were easily turned another quarer-half turn on each nut.
See if this makes a difference. Although I didn't start this thread, thanks for the suggestion

I was going to ask you but I didn't want to do the "pain in the arse buyer keeps asking me stuff" type thing. I'll try ordinary Super Unleaded and see what happens. Interested that you were told about the Optimax / fumes thing. Who told you that and on what basis - as I've not seen mention from others on this board about similar problems ?
Actually Chuck, while were doing this can you tell me whether you ever got the diff whine (if that's what it is) looked at ?
Thanks

DEX i only ran the car on super unleaded i avoided optimax cause i was told it would make the car smell of petrol fumes DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GDLUCK
Do what? Someone's having a larf shirley?
I'd check out the usual suspects if I were you. Optimax shouldn't cause more fumes unless there's something else not tuned correctly or working correctly.
