This morning I whisked the roof off for a frosty blast across town to work. Unfortunately the rear window seems to have developed a tiny pinhole crack in it where it folds due to the plastic being very cold. At some point I'll get a new plastic window stitched in but since the rest of the window is absolutely fine I wondered if there was some preparation I could seal the (tiny) hole with that won't be too visible etc. Anyone used anything? I don't want to put glue in as this will just go hard and cause further cracking I suspect. Any help appreciated!

Try Halfords or a camping shop and get some waterproof clear sticky tape, cut a small circle and stick it on? R...

What about the vinyl repair patches you get with kids paddling pools etc.? Or just a dab of silicone sealant - it's stretchy and sticky. Anyway, how much draught will you get from a pinhole compared to all the other draughts in a TVR? Better still, why not leave the top down, and invest in a big hairy hat!!

Don, I would try some clear silicon gell, Halfords used to do some to seal windscreens, this should fill the hole and stay flexible enough, also the clear patch mentioned would work ================ Graham and Rosie

Since the hole in mine is still tiny and doesn't cause a leak I haven't done anything yet. I'm going to research what professional repairs can be made. This time of year the roof doesn't come off so much so its unlikely to get any worse. I'll post again when I've done something I'm satisfied with....sorry to hear yours has the problem too....

There are times, no matter how cold and frosty, when the roof just HAS to come off! So I'm with you there.....

The only answer is to replace the plastic sheet in the roof panel. Hawthorns did mine and a good job too the damage was 120 notes.

Hey Thanks, pitbull. Useful to know how much it was...did you get that done recently..? I think that's what I'm going to do at the next service. Since it doesn't leak and is barely visible I think I can leave it that long.

The plastic gets less flexible with age (and exposure to sunlight) and eventually splits where the strain is greatest when folded down (usually behind where the roof stays hinge). Replacement requires the hoop and rear roof section to be removed so that a new piece of plastic can be sewn in by machine. The cheapest price I've heard of for this was £100. Mine is overdue and patched inside and out with clear repair tape.
