trusted the fuel gauge as it was still a little bit off empty. Ran out in the middle of a single track farm road and luckily made it to one of those passing places.

Thank god for the petrol can in the boot. Is c250miles all you can expect from a full tank?

Some have been dreaming of getting 250 miles from a tank one day.... 200 would be nice occassionally.

Do you keep a full petrol can in the boot ?
Petrol & fibreglass get on together like a house on fire. Actually no, they're better than that

250 miles to the tank!!! I think you must have fairy boots on, Try the lead ones on and watch the figure drop to below 200. It may be heavier on the fuel with the lead ones but a lot more fun

I usually reset the trip-meter after each fill up so
I can work out my average consumption. Once you get
used to this (will obviously vary depending on your
type of driving and traffic conditions) you can drive
on miles covered and ignore the guage. Mine is eratic
too and often shows more in the morning than it showed
the previous night (maybe the fairies add some).
I typically average about 20mpg so at 200 I'm getting
concerned and at 220 I'm nervous as this only leaves
a gallon or so in reserve (it's not a good idea
to drain the tank if you can help it). This is OK in town where the nearest garage is usually in sight
but not so good when on the M-way between junctions
and services (unless you like playing fuel tank roulette).

If I've been driving it about 170 - 185, if the wife's been driving it, it can be as high as 250+

How could that be?

I get about 240 to a tank regardless of how I drive it (Joolz tested it too, on hol last year). Except on track days, when it gets scary.

I drive like I stole it through twisty country roads every day so I think my fuel efficiency must be pretty good. Either that or I need to get used to letting the rear step out a bit more.

Definately rethinking the fuel in the boot following an earlier post.

Best I have got was a damp day with the lid on between Poole and York - 300 mls on one tank and over 31 to the gallon.

I usually manage about 22mpg and hence 200-220 per tank.

I think it makes a big difference between 4l & 5l cars. 4s tend to b a lot more frugal IMO.

I use my Chim daily, here she is being cleaned last weekend:

and I get 120 miles to a tank as I use her daily on a round trip of just four or so miles!

I seriously doubt that is good for the car

Yeh, yeh Pies. Been here with this one before. I don't totally disagree with you but it hasn't done her any harm, the temperature is up at 70oC by the time I get there, and back to optimium (70 is about as hot as she gets and yes the thermostat/otter switch has been tested) by the time I get home, four miles or not. Should I keep her in the garage five days a week? Fact of the matter is when Mark Adams chipped the Chim he said it was perhaps the best set up Chim he'd seen. I hear what you're saying but I've yet to see a problem. I'll keep you posted.
