Planning on going up north to get the chassis done by: http://www.chassisclean.co.uk

The treatment process seems pretty dam good and have had a friend use them so know it's a good job, BUT - it's a long way to travel and wanted to know if anyone can recommend a place more local (live in Surrey) who does the same thing?!

Planning on going up on Friday...so need a quick reply

Thanks in advanced!!

I had this done on my Griff last year. Seems to have done a reasonable job and the chassis came back painted silver.

It's more local to you (near Gatport Airwick) and appears to be a similar process to the Chassisclean procedure.

But neither of them involve a body lift or body off, so you'll still find the top of the outriggers, where the rust causes the first problems, is the area these procedures aren't the best at getting to.

Don't get me wrong, for the money I think they did a good job and I'm happy my chassis is in reasonable order as a result. But in a couple of years I'm going to have to revisit, or do a body off to ensure the outriggers are sound.

Guys,
I wonder if people have had their chassis treated by "Chassis Clean" or "Austec" or anyone else and can confirm:
- how much they paid
- if they are happy with the quality of the work
- etc...

I have been on "Chassis clean" 's website and it looks prety serious to me and I am going to get my chassis done at some point this summer... I am considering "chassis clean", but someone closer to London could be a good option too...

Any comments welcome, thank you.

Best regards

I'm now in two minds what to do, it's a long drive but if it's worth while then maybe i should still go for it, after talking to both companies - the one in London is charging £460, Chassis clean quoted me £360 but then it's probably gona cost me the difference in getting there and back!

Anyone else have any past experience with either places? Why didn't you get the full treatment Quinny?

This is very impressive. The annoying thing is that I recently moved from the Altrincham area to Devon so can't really justify the trip to get the car done. My car is a 2005 but a previous owner has put what looks like a combination of waxoyl and underseal on the chasis. I want to get it off and return it to orginal .. whats the best way? I wonder if I can get it steam cleaned locally and touch up the chasis myself.

Did anyone follow this up, I'm in a similar dilemma to the prior posts and would be good to have first hand experience.

Cheers Keith

i did that last week, used my mates ramp, got the wheels and started rubbing her down, then used POR15 painted chassis and other bits including hands and arms,( note to self next time long sleeves and gloves as my hands are still marked in gray paint)
let it dry and wax oil took about 2 1/2 days in total but enjoyed getting my hands dirty and seeing for myself what state of the car is really in

As a new member to the forum and a future owner, there always seems loads of discussion ref chassis finishing
Has anyone used a product called Rustoleum, if not I can highly recommend avaialble in brush or spray its really tough wont chip and covers well (no not affiliated in any way) used it years ago on a tubuler 7 chassis and it is the dogs do da stones just bruise it. I think it was Dutch and developed for the North sea industry

Done both the Griff and Sagaris in the last two years using POR15 and then Smoothright mixed to match the chassis colour where needed, and finally Waxoil. Each took ~5 days, mostly cleaning time using degreasers, but worth knowing there isn't a spot of rust left underneath.

I must be really slowfrownI am using por 15 then a tie coat and then their white two pack top coat.I have sanded and cleaned the whole back end and can say there is not much powder coat left untouched.Did you boys remove a suspension parts and wishbones etc so you could get to all the bracket bits etc,or am i being tooooooooo fussy.I have removed the diff so i can have good access to the higher tubes etc.The chassis on mine is not really that bad but i want to check and double check to make it spot on.

Hi Keith, I had my chassis treated by Chassis Clean last winter.

They did a first rate job, but the process does take two days.

It only really made sense as I had a meeting up north that spanned two days so a colleague collected me from the Chassis Clean farm & dropped me off when it was all done.

Recently I had a small power steering fluid leak which took some of the Dintrol off of the front chassis area.

I had St8Six blow some more Dinitrol on and they did a nice job of it.

I would talk to Jason at Str8Six and see what he charges, if the price is right if I were you I would take it there.

No i just did my best, removed any surface rust ,brushed off loose paint ,used thiiners to remove any grime then slapped on black Epoxy mastic two pack comes with thinners if you want to spray .Im not even bothered about getting it on the fibreglass because its the same colour.if i wanted to do a show job the body would come off.Im happy in my mind its going to last for year.Ive even treated the areas you cant see, above the outriggers, blow with compressed air, push a long micro bore copper pipe above the out rigger and and spray it until it is visible from underneath then just brush the rest underneath.then its the same procedure with the wax oil..Must have two gallons of paint under there.
