Nearly didn't burn off a Golf V6!

Hhhmmm... Even if I agree, that definition makes a Mazda MX5 a sports car but not a Cerbera, since it has four seats an a roof Difficult issue this!
At the same event (which hoped I had repressed) a 500 bhp race prepared DeTomaso Panthera had his rear view mirror full of a BMW M3 four door saloon, and could only keep him there for a lap or so.
What is the world coming to...

I live in MK, and my friend offered me to a little informal challenge.. He has a fiat 20V turbo, only a couple of years old, which he could never keep up with me (4L Chimp). Over the past year he has had the following work, big wheels, K&N Air Filter, Dump Valve, cat removed, bigger exhaust with little or no silencers, a chip which he paid £300 for from South Africa, then another £500 to have it fitted and tuned on a rolling road. Also a few other non performance mods, strut brace, etc...
He has now got a car that spits a 4" flame out the back, which looks excellent, and keeps up with the trev to about 140...!! And when I mean keeps up, I mean he kept within about 15 feet of me whilst accelerating from 40mph going up an incline as well to about the 140mph mark....!!!! I was impressed, needless to say so was he..!!!!
If you live or drive through MK, look out for a light Blue Fiat Coupe, with big wheels. If he sees a trev, he will 'ave a go...!!!

jj, you'll have to get a Cerbie then
Cars/bikes that have given my 4l Chimaera a good challenge:
1. Jag XJ supercharged (370bhp) - looks like a barge, but surely a match for an M5
2. Merc CLK430. But I prob wasn't really trying hard enough.
3. Volvo T5, but only till we got to 80mph. Got the better of him thereafter. Quite convincingly.
4. Suzy RG250 and Honda vfr400. They were both nailing it from the lights, totally maxed out. Not sure if they knew I was there, but didn't make any distance on me. I bottled at about 105, only a B road (but straight).

Buzzsaw, I don't think we are talking 0 -60 or 100 times, this seems to be a rolling start conversation, and with that type of start the differences are greatly reduced. However, I think that you have a point in the diparity in the 2 cars, It's more down to use of wrong gear and not using the full rev range that 5.0 Chims can't make the break from a VR6, imagine flooring it in 5th gear and the VR6 drops to 3rd or even 2nd, he's gonna go past you I'm afraid.
I remember a "Race" I had with a 400SE about 3 years ago, bright & early one sunny Sunday morning.
I was in my Mk1 Golf GTi, and this guy blatantly pulled out on me forcing me to stand on the brakes. The road was an "A" road, but fairly twisy, with various 30/40 limits. But what amazed me, was that he could not shake me until we cleared 90 ! After 3-4 miles, I decided I'd wind down the window & enjoy his soundtrack, which is when I found out why I was keeping up with him. He was NEVER changing gear !!!!
Ok, so I was only in a GTi, but I was using every single ounce of power in all the gears, which meant I could match him when he just stood on the throttle at 30/40 in 5th...
