Sorry if I seem rather thick, but having read through a few threads, I occassionally come across someone mentioning Real World BHp, For example the 4.0 Chim is around 200bhp instead of 235, and the 5.0 is around 275Bhp instead of 320...

What is this Real World figure?

Its the power you get when the bhp is measured on a rolling road.

Pepsi

Let's just say 'it doesn't do what it says on the tin' is the expression normally read on here (Rover V8 anyway)

AJP8 and Speed 6 are more *truthful* figures.

BTW, did you make it to TMS and if so, were you impressed?

But don't worry, the performance claims are pretty accurate, so don't worry yourself too much as to what BHP the Rover V8s actually produce.
"Sufficient", as Bristol say.

Sufficient maybe, but the quoted performance figures for a Griff 0-60 (not a very useful measure I admit) is 4.1 seconds, but most performance magazines only ever see around 4.6 seconds.

There's a certain amount of 'porky pies' for the Griff and Chimp, although as already pointed out on here, the AJP based cars do exactly as they say on the tin

EVO Griff 500 0-60 4.8

I suppose these tests are so dependent on the conditions of the day etc...

The EVO figures for Griff/Chim performance have been somewhat confusing. From memory, the figures used to quote TVR's literature (4.1 0-60 for the 500 variants) but now show 4.8. Funny thing is the figures are not in bold(ie not been tested by EVO). So where have they found this data???

torque pulls the car forwards....bhp is to hold the speed.

Personally I'm not worried. Even maintaining a high degree of mechanical sympathy I can get my Griff 500 to 60 in a shade over 5 seconds, so I'm confident that a professional could shave at least a second off using a full power 1st-2nd change.

I don't know how much performance varies but I get a repeatable 5 sec 0-60 from my 4.0 without giving the clutch much hammer and no loss of traction.

Also done a bit of experimentation on a stretch of road with a slight incline. 50-90 is a repeatable 6-6.5 sec in 3rd. Interestingly it takes 7 sec using 2nd and 3rd even though it feels faster. I must be crap at changing gear!

When I was racing Tuscans I would record 0-60 times of less than 3 secs on the PI datalogger. I thought that was pretty good. I think the official figures are 3.3 secs.

I believe it was Carroll Shelby who said

"BHP Sells Cars - Torque wins races!!"
