Mas3200...

Thanks for the offer; would love a look at your car. What colour and spec is it? I still can't find any local cars to view. Maybe we can bump into each other (not literally) and I can see it.

Thanks again

I was down at the factory on Thursday speccing my new Plus 4, saw lots of Aero 8's in production, not really my cup of tea to be honest, but they are just starting to roll out the models with the re-designed deeper headlamps........

hi david
mine is in mauritious blue - fairly dark blue - looks great in this colour, but I prefer it in pictures in the lighter blue that mr_tony has his.
The spec is pretty standard in most aeros
mine is a mark I with standard exhausts
over winter it'll be booked into the factory to upgrade the exhausts to the librands sports ones.
this will cost at least £1250 (cheapest i've seen mr_tony is at libra motive down near you. Think also they will upgrade the ecu to the GT version there too - haven't asked the factory yet)
Apparently this exhaust system sounds great and adds at least 25bhp. At the moment my car is very quiet 'til you get to 3000rpm where it starts to sound good. I want it to sound much better down the rev range as a V8 should.
Try to get a car with this on already as does not seem to add that much to the residual value.
mine has the short throw le mans gear shift which is v good.
Other than that I have stone leather piped in blue, a mota lita steering wheel and a shite stereo that there is no way of reaching when you are driving.
There doesn't seem to be much difference in spec, but if you want to get one up north beggers can't be choosers.
only found a couple for sale recently in the country - best is at sgt down south but colour is a bit lary (sgt.co.uk).
Still don't know whether taking mine up this weekend - will let you know if I am.
by the way - how the hell do you post photos on this site

Hi Rich,

I took quite a few piccies, but all the Aero 8 ones I took were fitted with the original headlamps....

The new ones are basically the same but narrower and deeper, from what I could see.....

Sorry...

think that the new headlamps are from the mini rather than the beetle
on the aeromax they are from the mini and this would make sense with them being BMW

The Mk2 car has the same Beetle headlights as the Mk1. Only the Aeromax has the Mini headlights and redesigned wings to suit.

Mark...I'm interested in your comment re. the upgraded ECU. Have Morgan given you a price or details? I'm currently looking for a GTN car and this might keep me happy in the meantime.

I've got Richard Thornes Sports exhaust, which looks better than the Librands model in my opinion..2 large oval pipes. It came out at about the same price fitted. I was surprised though that its only the rear of the system thats is replaced, ie, the cats remain. Sounds great though.

I'm also looking at getting softer compound tyres such as Yokos. Having had a tyre replaced recently and the fitter breaking the £80! sensor I'm a bit aprehensive though . The only good thing is I now know how to recalibrate the warning system...

Talking of tyres, what pressures are you guys running? The tyre pressure system is set at 30psi, which is what my tyres were inflated to when I picked it up. But the handbook says 24psi...my dealer seems to think this is a mistake.

Hmmm,
I've been running mine at around 24psi as it says in the manual - and this is what the pressures were when I collected it...

Me thinks a call to the factory is due for the correct pressures!

Would be interested in how you get on with the yokohomas - are they the soft compound ones with a track bias? (They look very cool - I think Meaden has them on the Exige is you read EVO...)

Thanks for the lkind words about the car colour scheme - the light blue really is rather photogenic - needs regular cleaning though as it shows the grime easily!

Also the ECU upgrade would be of interest to me too.

If you check out the 'why such a poor VMAX' thread in the VMAX forum theres some info from a chap who's offering to supercharge the aero - seems like a nifty option for an easy 400hp! I think I'll be staying stock for a while until I've got my head round the car completely though!

Mas3200,

I like all of the colours I have seen so far on the Aero8. I saw a black one advertised recently and that looked superb, although black IMO can hide the shape of a car but this is not the case for the Aero8. As Mr Tony says, some colours have to be continually cleaned to look their best, black being the worst colour of all for this.

The bright blue car at SGT I think looks great. Why have such an 'in-your-face' car and not go the extra mile (no yellow ones though please!).

I would like to buy a MK1 car with the upgrades but as you point out they are few and far between. I probably won't even have a choice of colour as I am buying used.

Uploading photos - go into your profile and scroll down to browse, insert the desired photo here and press update or upload, and this should do it.

If you are in the North East at the weekend, you can e-mail me direct through my profile.

Thanks

David

David,

If you liuke the look of the blue one - give julian a call at SGT (ask for morgan sales). I'm sure you could negotiate a deal to include some of the MK 1 upgrades you want - e.g. sports exhaust - (only one worth worrying about - the cosmetic stuff is pretty cheap).

Only other upgrade you really need is a stereo with a remote control - leaning down the transmission tunnel to see the radio is downright dangerous if you're driving along!

Rich

Thats interesting what you say about your tyre pressure. I set mine to 24psi, thinking that mine were overinflated. I drove a couple of miles down the road when the warning indicator made me jump out of my skin telling me my pressures were 6psi too low! Having sussed out the warning indicator, I have found that the 'correct' tyre pressure can easily be adjusted... the indicator will then bleep and flash if the pressure goes 3psi below it. Even though my dealer told me 30psi is correct, I think I'll still give Morgan a call. Mines running the later specced Pirelli P-Zeros, I assume you are running the 'run-flat' Dunlops?

Yep - I've got the run flats.
Interesting what you say - that would explain why the warning sensor occasonaly triggers on my car - I could never fathom the damn thing out!

If you look under the support section, you can download the .pdf user manual - 'SmarTire Full Function Display User’s Manual – Gen II'.

I'm going to give Morgan a ring this morning.

Spoken to Morgan, the general concensus is the pressures should be set to 25psi

hi david,
sorry - computer power adapter decided to blow up last week - bloody macs.
didn't bring the aero up to newcastle anyway as the weather was crap.
I've finally got round to posting a pic on my profile.
There are better photos of it if you go to carsinthepark.org.uk on the gallery from 16th october.
you're more than welcome to come and have a look at it still,
likewise if i'm up in newcastle i'll give you a shout - girlfriend's parents live up there so have to go up occasionally.

Looks fantastic in that dark blue!
Have you still got the 3200 as well as the Aero?
I traded my 3200 for the Aero - to be honest having the pair would be automotive nirvana!
