Can anyone give me an approximate vale on a late sixties, fairly rust free Mgb gt, obviously the chrome bumper variant? It needs a respray, chromework and detailing. Sorry if that isnt enough information, i will narrow down the date/engine size when i find them out!

There are several for sale at the moment under "Classic MG's" on e bay, this should give you a guide.
I would think from what you have said well less than £1000 should get you a good one.
Watch for rust behind the front wings, its a hidden area and can cost an arm and a leg to put right.

Are most of the body panels easily replaceable by an amateur in the same way that they are on a mini for example? Also, do any firms do 'repro' panels that are cheaper than the often pricey heritage ones?

Thanks a lot!

I would say that restoring a 60's MGB GT is a much bigger challenge than restoring a Mini, Iv'e had a 60's MGB and the later rubber bumper model as well as a Mini (for Hill Climbing), the Mini was much the easier to work on and parts were much cheaper (apart from being smaller !)
If you don't buy Heritage spares, sourcing s/h things like wings etc. I think you may find difficult, they are 40 years old !
Sills on the MGB GT (and B)need to be carefully checked when you buy as they are often packed with filler just to look good, I know it can be embarrassing to go around checking with a magnet (I think so) but you would be well advised to do this.
A well restored GT can be a rewarding car especially if you can get the bigger V8 one.
I would say buy the best you can afford, the auction houses sometimes have them going, only last week a tidy one down here went for £800 but it was yellow !.
Good luck if you decide to have a go.
