Didn't we do this exact same thread with you a couple of months back?

All this talk about needing a garage...having had 2 MGB Gts in last few years as well as a TVR I think myself +most of my classic owning mates would have struggled if a garage mandatory. They are harder to find &often get used for other things if lucky enough to have one on the premises. In fact one such mate with a rubber bumper roadster had such a damp garage that even the "stainless" wheeltrim covers got rusty ! But he has looked after it & spruced it up and just got short of £4k for it this week.

Get a decent fitted cover and utilise a driveway you will be surprised how much damp is kept out... the MGB Hive do really good heavy duty breathable 'uns for about £120. Been delighted with the two I have had past nine years.

So did you buy it? Thread has gone quiet for a month.

I've had 4 MGBs over 40 years now, through continual ownership. The current one has been in my posession for 34 years, so I know the bodywork very well. The sills are the big deal as they're made up of inner and outer sills, with a so called castle section in between. It's all repairable but it's not cheap if you're going to do it properly. Consider the sill condition as the iceberg theory. If you can see evidence of corrosion on the surfase, it will be much greater beneath. This will be true in ALL cases.

Mechanically they're very reliable as said, but you'll need to fettle - as also said. Build quality was pretty good for the day (BL had a poor reputation at the time but some models were better than others. The MGB was one of the better ones.) They'll all be of an age now where previous owners will have tinkered - and to different levels of quality. Avoid the work of the bodger! Plus, you don't need telling again, use regularly; that's the best advice for reliability.

Of course, a better budget will buy you improved condition. At 2.5k it'll need some sort of work, for sure. Good luck if you haven't already bought.
