Hi all,

I'm looking at getting another Midget (after a 20-year gap... yikes!), and the one I have my eye on is a '77 1,500. (For the record, I'd ideally want a SWA 1275, but funds don't allow it).

Anyway, talking to the owner it seems the original engine went pop so he replaced it with one from a scrapped Dolomite. I just wanted to check if this is something to be concerned about? My understanding (based solely on what I've read online, so it must be true) is that while they're essentially the same engine, space issues in the MG mean that it's not a completely straight swap.

I guess my question is should I be worried about this? Are there any questions I really need to be asking? And might I be lining up any issues for the future (cooling, for example)? Or am I just being paranoid? In all other respects the car seems great for the money, but I guess that's partly what's making me fret. If something seems too good to be true, etc. etc. ...

Thanks for your help, and sorry if this is an idiot's question!!

I should think it is ok - but which Dolomite engine? I assume not a 16v Sprint....
The later 1500 midgets used a different radiator to the early models, but I'm sure they were tested in hot climates and so should be fine if in good order. There are lots of engine swaps in Midgets so plenty of info out there.
