The deed is done , we picked up a 79 1500 this afternoon , major amount of work done already , major potential just needs fettling and using , a couple of questions fellow Midgeters , there is a slight chatter from the shell bearings under load , I have done my 1800 Mk1 GTI before and they were a doddle , can these by done in place ? Hardtops ? are they readily available second hand , what should I expect to pay for one? Bootracks , the car I have had the rack nicked so the hole are there but no rack , are they all the same dimensions ? Cheapest place for soft-tops ?
Apart from that , drove the car down from Bath today and it drives great , not quite the Tvr but a very stable drive , ideal first sports for the Doris !!

Corin, in answer to your questions.....Midget bearings should be possible to do "in situ"....having said that I have only worked on the 1275cc models!
Midget hardtops are available 2nd hand....I have one for sale but it will require the rear perspex screen as mine has broken!
Bootracks should all be the same size. However,I have a spare bootlid without holes in excellent condition from an early 1275cc Midget for sale if you need one.
As for the hood I suggest you check out the MGOG spares catalogue or the relevant pages of "Enjoying MG"
Usually plenty to choose from.

Good luck

Thanks for the response , how much are you looking for your spares out of interest ?
