MG 75 V8

Ooooh.... we can't wait to hear this

MG Rover Group gave their V8 saloon an official launch in Geneva this week. The Rover V8 incorporates a bespoke Monogram interior and is distinguished by a new exclusive front-end treatment with large grille, not dissimilar to that now employed by Audi but said to hark back to the days of the grand old P5B.

Under the bonnet, the flagship V8 power unit develops 260PS and 410Nm of torque. A major re-engineering of the MG ZT chassis has been completed allowing the power to be fed to the rear wheels.

MG Rover Group’s unique traction control system ensures that this considerable torque is deployed to good effect, whatever the conditions, whilst delivering rapid acceleration up to a top speed in excess of 150mph.

Prices haven't been announced yet.

ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I have one now and i am trading up to the new one. It's a true Brit. fed up with people being critical of British built cars just because since the Morris Marina was launched it has been 'flavour of the month'. There is everything right about being 'retro' as this is - audi snitched the idea from the P5 - most cool ideas come from britain in the first place and get nicked. About time we are popping our heads above the parapit. My mate is in geneva and reports it is a true stunner and he is very critical. It leaves the X type standing for interior finish as well. Let's hope Proton keeps off.

Lets hope that 'V8' badge on the front goes amiss when they produce it, because with 260bhp, it's gonna be up against some strong competition!

Thats where the number plate goes...

I think it looks great. Honestly, I'm sick of you guys bashing MGR. You start off with "build us a car we might want.. blah blah" and then, when they deliver a boldly styled, RWD, V8 powered saloon with a lovely interior and great build quality/reliability you still manage to make arsey comments!
They must be wondering why they bother!

To some people that really know the car world, the words 'Rover' and 'V8' go together like 'Fish' and 'Chips'.

It's 'only' got 260Bhp but then it's 'only' got 410 NM of torque. That's mean's it'll 'only' take off like a scolded cat and 'only' reach 155mph.

It'll 'only' have an interior that puts anything less than a Bentley to shame. It'll 'only' have a presence on the road that most car firms would sell their collective grannies for. It will 'only' cosset their driver and passengers in a style that lottery money can 'only' buy.

It'll 'only' be around £30,000 as well.

It's styled just right, it's a proper retro homage to the cars that made Rover rightly famous for luxury, style, presence and power at a time when other car companies (that shall remain nameless) were making Austin Dixie's under license or bubble cars.

It's a car that puts this company back where they belong and that's something that we should all be proud of.

Do you have some problem with TVR.?!

That's a great piece of artwork on the city rover Connor!!! It almost looks plausable.

Which one has it got to be then chaps - the sedan or the wagon and should it be the Rover V8 or the MG V8?

I tell you what; I and thousands of others surely would buy a V8 Rover 75 bodied pick up. what another GORGEOUS CONCEPT. What with that massive Dodge Pick Up coming to these shores as a personal import it would fit right on in to the stable. Chippies and Sparkies charge the roof these days it would be loose change and they would have no further excuses for being late.

Good post
Wish i had read it before i posted my previouse slur. The front looks good so long as they don't plaster the No. plate in the middle. Infact so many cars would look so much better without No. plates. and imagine the front ends that designers could dream up without the constrictions of one!, i'm sure someone could think of some sort of inprinted tag card with all the vehicles dater that could be easily read by whoever needs to. fantasy i know, forgive me i am tired and about to retire to bed.

About time they came up with a decent car - with all those torques sqeezed under the bonnet I bet it wafts marvellously. And of course the 5-series chassis is quite upto the task of supportig such a role.

All the more reason to wonder what the hell they're doing with this comedy SV thing.

IMO Rover need to reclaim their up-market status by buying back one of their names from BMW - either Austin or Morris or something - to stick on the City and the 25. Then they can really make some headway in the luxury market.
Either that or buy a share in Alvis (who corner the market in military troop-carriers), then try and use the name on the sort of cars Alvis used to make and keep hold of Rover!

Even so, I think Rover's reputation as a Jaguar rival will be hurt with the badge adorning the CityRover, StreetWise and the like.

Er ... the one I followed up the M6 a few weeks back didn't. Wound the window down to get a listen and nothing. OK, so the bloke wasn't caning it but even if it's tall geared there must have been some noise at motorway speeds?
