Trailer toungue weight

Hi all, I know that all traiers are different, but what sort of weight do you guys run on the toungue? The manufacturer recommends 60kgs, I measured mine and its 100. What are your thoughts?

Forgiven, especially as most people usually refer to it as the nose weight

If trailer and towing vehicle both in good order, upto 100Kg wouldn't worry me massively, but the only issue is that if something untoward did occur (which may have nothing at all to do with the towing) some of the sharper insurance companies might start checking stuff and if not accordant then they might decide your cover was invalidated as a consequence?

Hi, and thanks for your reply, I am not too worried about that, the trailer is brand new and van more or less too. My issue is that on the trailer plaque it says that the max weight on tongue is 60kgs. I was actually considering to put some counter weight at the rear to reduce the weight slightly from the front.

Have you tried dropping the car back a few inches? depending on the trailer it might make a big difference.

Problem is the fly nut holding the ramp in place would end up under the splitter

Just roll the car back before removing the ramps? I have to do this with my car.

The Recomended nose weight will be determined by the tow vehicle not the trailer. You will find it in the technical spec of your tow vehicle but will vary if you opted for updated suspension on the rear of the tow vehicle which is a common option on vans.
There can be quite a variation, from memory my Porsche Cayenne is up to 140 kg but my Vito is only up to 120kg. As I say from memory only so please do not quote me and check your own tech specs

100KG'S is a lot, you'd need a decent 4x4 for that sort of weight. Is this a single or double axle trailer? as it makes a big difference.

Single, and I tow with a Toyota Hiace panel van
