As I continue my journey of getting this old SR8 ready for the track, the latest obstacle is the radiator fan (located on the left of the chassis in front of the left rear tire). The issue is that the fan doesn't come on at 88*. In fact, it doesn't come on at all.

I've verified all the wiring, all the way to pulling the 85 leg of the fan relay to ground and having it come on. The 85 leg of the relay is connected to the F88 (pin 32) and it has continuity.

So -- I'm left to guess that maybe my model year (2007) doesn't have fan support? Perhaps I've got a later model loom with the relay but the ECU just doesn't pull the relay to ground? Anybody have any experience with SR8 radiator fans?

I've not found a solution, so I've installed a switch so I can turn the fan on and off manually. I'll have to keep an eye on temps, but I'm hoping I won't need to run the fan when on track.

Some of the earlier cars did not have the ran fan function turned on, this need some to be activated and it should then work.

Sounds like you have tried everything else!

Needs to be done by Radical, Spring Mountain might be able to help?

We could have a look for you but would involve shipping to the uk just to have it looked at and confirm if that’s your issue!

I talked to Spring Mountain about this, but they couldn't help. I guess I'll see if I can get Radical on the phone. I've got a track weekend coming up, and perhaps I could send it in after that.

One of Radical's Main Dealers in the Americas and they can't help?! yikes

No... they are off digging up the wiring diagrams for me, but it's pretty simple wiring. I don't know for sure, but I think they send ECMs to the factory for any re-programming.

When I fitted a cooling fan to my SR3 I just used a third party controller. They're pretty easy to fit, especially if you choose one that has a probe that you insert into the fins of the radiator. If you can't get the ECM reprogrammed locally it'll be a heck of a lot cheaper to just fit an external controller.

Yes, I know of similar products. I installed this one ( http://dccontrol.com/constant_temperature_controll... ) on a 69 Camaro that came into the shop this past week.

I was hoping for ECM control, but something from the aftermarket might be the better choice. Thanks for the nudge.

Hi, my PR6 is a 2007 model with MBE wiring. When I bought the car it didn’t have a fan installed, however my wiring loom did have a plug for the fan, so it was just plug and play for me.
P.s. fan comes on around 95 not 88 in my case, you might want to let it heat up a bit more. Or you can also get into the ecu and have it turned on at whatever temperature you want.

Same for PR6 2010 with Life ECU wiring.
