When I lock my car (2002 XKR Convertible) as per hand book i.e. one press of the red button, the car locks with no sound. If on the other hand, I press the lock button twice the alarm chirps as it locks. The handbook makes no reference to the option of pressing the button twice! Anyone know what the differwenc is? Second question. I'm told the car paintwork is lacquered as standard - is this right and does it make any difference to polishes to be used?
I have had a TVR Chim. and a Boxster 3.2S in the past, but this XKR is the business!

OK my 97 xk8 press the button once and it locks with a short flash of the indicators (and chirps) but the chirp is a setting option.
If the button is pressed again within 3 seconds it then Deadlocks the doors. IE cant be opened from inside either. Lock yourself in and press it once and open the door. then again after the double press to see if thats it. PS mine is a conv.

XJR - one press to lock (no sound or lights), second press - deadlocks (chirp and indicators flash)..........took me a while to work that one out.

Thanks for the advice. It is as you describe. Strange it made no reference in the handbook.

There's no reference in my drivers handbook either (98 xkr) however, i have a seperate book titled "security System" which explains the full operation of the key fob.

Regards, Miles.

Hi Miles, Does your 'wee' book tell of any other interesting fob operations?

Depending on your fob, you could also have;
1. Remote boot release
2. Headlight illumination button - press once for dipped beam to come on and illuminate your drive or find your car in huge car park etc. Light will extinquish after short period, or you can press it again to cancel lights manually. Very handy.

The Jag does seem to have numerous manuals. I am not near mine at the moment, but I think there are about 7-8 brochures in all

(Will check it when I next can for you)

Apart from what's alresdy been posted, the only other functions the book mentions are "Panic Alarm" and "Passive Arming". if you want more information on either or both let me know.

Silver City,

"Panic alarm" I do believe there is a passenger panic alarm built into the n/s footwell!!. So far, the passengers that I have taken, have been unable to find it, with the response of "F hell"

Thanks. I seem to have all but the Security system one. I'll try and track one down just to complete the set.
