Looking for some advice regarding a 2000 4.0 se s-type.

or 3.0 same year of manufacture

Do these engines differ from the 4.0 as used in the XKR and if so can i be assured that a 2000 model would not be fitted with Nickasil liners

apreciate advice
thanks

3 litre engine has always had ferrous liners. No problems there.

4 litre block is common to all Jags so an early 2000 MY will have Nikasil liners.

Jag should know the cutoff VIN, that will tell you whether your car had the Nikasil engine or not.

I have been doing some research on this as I looking to move to a V8, No S type V8's were fitted with nikasil liners. Nikasil liners are only applicable to model year 1999 and earlier. You will find a full write up here www.jag-lovers.org/include/iv.php3?in=/cjw/nikasil.jpg
hope this helps

Well, if you look further on that same board you will also find this message confirming that the Stype (same AJv8 engine!) also did have a Nikasil block. I have never seen, or know of, a document from Jaguar stating that the S-type does not have Nikasil.

Some journalists have claimed otherwise, but never provided any proof (e.g. confirmation from Jaguar), at least not within magazines or forums like these. They also claimed that my2000 XK and XJ do not have Nikasil, whereas I have a June 2000 XK with Nikasil confirmed via different sources inside Jaguar. Many have interpreted a service bulletin S491 about Nikasil (version 7 now) in a certain way (even Jaguar dealers/importers).

S-type with Nikasil:

But, if treated well, a Nikasil block could even be a blessing in the long run!

You need the VIN cut off number to know for sure, because a model year starts in August of the prior calendar year as a general rule, but the S-Type was launched as a 99.25 MY car and actually was sold as a 2000 MY in many markets. So some 2000s definitely had Nikasil.

The information can be confusing.....

Hi

Just got an S-Type 3.0 (2001 X) so am taking an interest in things.... the first link says: 'No S-Types were ever fitted with a Nikasil engine regardless of build date'.

Or is it more subtle than that?
