Jaguar Assistance
Discussion
Bought a nearly new Jaguar XF Sportbrake in October and had the drive like an old lady message come up on the dash on Thursday, as I was only 10 miles from home I pressed on home slowly. Car wouldn't go over 2000rpm and 30mph took about 1 minute. I resorted to using the paddles to upshift early to make use of the torque. Whilst crossing the Severn Bridge I call Jag Assistance and they said they would get someone to my house asap and if he couldn't fix it then they would take it away and leave me a hire car. We a bit worried about getting a smart car as a replacement for the weekend but pleased I would at least have transport!
When I got home there was a Land Rover driving by a guy from JLR waiting to repair my car, 10 minutes later the turbo hose was refitted, error code reset and he was off on his way!
Excellent service.

Good stuff. Common fault apparently, and covered by a recall. When I got home there was a Land Rover driving by a guy from JLR waiting to repair my car, 10 minutes later the turbo hose was refitted, error code reset and he was off on his way!

Just a word of warning, if you keep the car long enough and the warranty runs out and they offer you the chance to renew you may want to just stick the money in the bank instead.... I used Jag assist and made warranty claims while under the original warranty and it was all fab. Recenly it ran out and I renewed and now they have gone from the 'cant do enough for you sir' phase to the 'you are a piece of st on my shoe sir' phase.
Just to add to the comedy value, I complained to Jaguar about them rejecting my warranty claim as my car had now gone over 60k miles. Its done 60009. Their response - Take it up with the warranty company, nothing to do with us. Despite the warranty being an official Jaguar one from a Jaguar Dealer and including Jaguar assist, sold to me as a Manufacturer warranty product. 'Not so' say Jaguar, its a 3rd party warranty that you chose, nothing to do with us.
Aha.

How old is the car? SOGA applies up to 6 years old. Aha.

Its 7 years old now . Its not a huge bother as I can afford any repairs, just annoyed with myself at getting stung for a warranty thats proving worthless and more annoyed at the response I get whenever I speak to Jaguar. As a company Jaguar have a glossy exterior but inside its pretty much British Leyland from the 70's with an attitude and technology to match.
Example - In this day of computers and bearing in mind their premium image I was surprised to find that there is no central record of servicing and maintenance. Its up to the local dealer to keep it on their computer. I discovered this when I lost a service invoice print out and called the dealer to get a replacement to be told they had been taken over by another dealer (still Jaguar) and all service records had been deleted. No central copy, no backup, no one kept ANY of the old records. All erased by the new dealer.

Eh? You bought a warranty to 60,000 miles and tried to claim after it had expired. How do you figure that you've been "stung". The warranty is not worthless, it's expired! unrepentant said:

No, I bought a used Jag XJR from a dealer which came with an unlimited mileage up to 10 years old warranty. At the end of a year I was given the option to renew it and keep the same warranty with the same cover. I renewed it at 58,000 miles. At 60,000 miles they are now telling me that the unlimited covers everything warranty no longer covers most things. There is nothing about this in the warranty documents it just says they may choose not to cover things under wear and tear.I accept things wear out but they kicker here is I was told that the failing rear bushes would be covered and replaced when they had worn a bit more. The fronts had been done under warranty already. But when they finally needed replacing at 60,009 miles (after they had taken my money) they told me to sling my hook. I had a chat with the warranty company , all very amicable and they told me that from this point on most stuff would be considered wear and tear and only things that pretty much exploded would be covered. Any components that fail but dont result in a complete failure are not covered any more. E.g. the torque converter is buggered but the gearbox still works albeit not very well - so thats not covered.
ETA I have discovered a few things along the way about Jaguar that make it clear that they have a glossy veneer but as an organisation their support infrastructure is poor, dealers are a bit rubbish (but this could be said of any big car company) and once they have your money they really dont give a crap about you. I did point out that I only had my car serviced and all other work done with their dealer network to maintain the warranty but didnt see much point continuing throwing money at them if the warranty wasnt going to be much good. Their response has been pretty much a shrug of the shoulders and a 'so what'. I guess I'm just one owner and its hardly going to hurt their bottom line.

VW group are as bad, if not worse in some areas, just maybe not visible to the customer. Their product lifecycle management processes and software, for example are about 15 years behind JLRs and Ford. Because they have many strong brands, they end up bickering internally, and get fk all done, other than waste £500m trying to do it.

OP I would suggest that reading the terms and conditions of the warranty are a good idea and then you can decide whether its worth keeping it on.I've never been treated like this by Jaguar.
I had an experience with Jaguar approved-used warranty that made me choose not to extend. When I collected my 2008, 73k mileage XKR last year the supercharger and/or aux belts were making a squeaking noise on cold start. The warranty paid for replacement of these and ancillary gubbins without quibble. So far so good.
Earlier this year my local dealer diagnosed "excess play in N/S/R upper wishbone bushes" (funnily enough the MOT never spotted that but that's another story) amongst other things, warranty company sent an engineer to inspect the car and in the end they refused to cover the cost, saying it was expected wear and tear. I can sort of see their view on that one but it seems a bit poor considering they'd covered the cost of the belts and stuff about 8 months previous and they're a service item to be done every 100k.
On that basis, and given the cost (£1400) to renew I chose to leave it this time round.

The belts probably weren't worn, but were causng an issue. The bushes wee worn. So I'd agree 100% with what has been done.Earlier this year my local dealer diagnosed "excess play in N/S/R upper wishbone bushes" (funnily enough the MOT never spotted that but that's another story) amongst other things, warranty company sent an engineer to inspect the car and in the end they refused to cover the cost, saying it was expected wear and tear. Fair enough I guess, that was never explained to me though.Perfect example of the randomness of approvals and in line with what the warranty company told me. That sometimes things will be approved , sometimes not depending on who the assesor is - totally subjective. Based on that I'm thinking of going to a different Jag dealer with a different assessor see what they say.
