As you may recall I've had a bit of a problem sorting the audio on my S-Type: namely, what's in it, what's been it, and what to do next. No-one is quite as clued up on modern Jags as Jag dealers so I rang HR Owen in Ipswich who said they'd have a look at the connectors if I popped in.
So yesterday I duly popped in, expecting no more than a cursory glance at the connectors and the part number of the changer that would fit.
It turned out that the two connectors, which logic dictated were for the CD changer, were nothing to do with it. So where was the wiring for one? It should have been in the glovebox - so why did my S-Type have the boot layout of a later model? After half an hour of poking and prodding - and quite a lot of disassembly - in a freezing car park, the technician said he'd take it into the workshop and see that I got some coffee in the showroom while I waited for the outcome. He could have said 'sorry mate, can't help' - but he wasn't going to let this problem get away.
I was happy, sitting reading magazines in the warm and drinking very good coffee. The Parts guy came over for a natter while the Technician was figuring out what was going on.
After no less than an hour and a half, he solved the riddle. My car was a transition - the older model but with the audio layout of a later one. He has found a 12-way black connector tucked well away in the bowels of the car behind the REM unit which turned out to be the elusive CD connector. Even the official Jag wiring diagram showed this as '????'
So I just wanted to say very many thanks to Stephen and Paul at HR Owen for spending 90 minutes of expensive time, for free, solving the mystery - on a car they hadn't even sold me. They even asked if the coffee was OK.
I'm a fussy bugger over customer service but HR Owen went beyond the call of duty on this one and I give them 110%.
Just wanted to let the world know

Simpo, glad the riddle is solved! Its unfortunate that we have to give praise where praise is due, for something that should be the norm. Well done to HR Owen, wish every Jag Dealer had the same attitude to its customers.

So a CD changer is on you Christmas List!
