Can anyone tell me if Jaguar plan to launch a diesel version of the new XJ. I passed a new XJ on the way home from testing the BMW 535D Sport and thought "now of only they did that as a diesel".

There has been reported sightings of an XJ around Coventry wearing a disguise over the rear bumper. It could perhaps suggest some downturned exhaust pipes?

Yep, the 2.7 litre Twin Turbo currently in the S-Type is due to go into the XJ either this year or next.

Personally, I reckon Jags should have either straight 6, V8 or V12 PETROL engines. Still, diesels sell, so I guess Jaguar must chase sales.

There will be an XJ diesel, take my word for it - wink, wink.
Have a new XJ6 courtesy car at the moment - very impresive. The lightness of the aluminium body is a real revelation, handling and ride are exceptional for a big car, The straight 6 is also a great engine, plenty quick enough for most people. Aesthetically, the 5 Series is the ugly sister to the XJ. All IMHO, of course

Yes I read somewhere that the XJ is lighter than the S type. If I was going to buy a petrol I was thinking of a 3.5 Sport. I have found a number of 5 month old cars with £13 - £15K off list. Personally I think the only way to buy a car that big is to go down the used route. I was just suprised to find that sort of saving on something so new. I was expecting it to be like the BMW and Audi and the dealers only offering that sort of money off 12 month old stock.

Isn't the six in the XJ a V6 not a straight 6?

As you have probably read, Jaguar have had a bad year , £600M down! But, good news for the buyer, I would imagine good dicounts all round. Howvever, that does NOT mean Jaguar is an inferior product by any means. The market fooding; common-as-muck; default-choice; 'I've got no imagination'...........etc., etc syndrome of BMW/Merc/Audi will become a problem of their own making. The XJ and the S Type deisel are fantastic cars, and you will have the benefit of knowing that the car either side of you in the car park will not be the same as your Jaguar!

As TwinTurbo said, the XJ6 uses a V6 (When will they weld two together?).

I think it's fair to say that the XJ is now so big it competes with the 7 series and leaves the S-Type to deal with the 5 series.

No I appreciate that the S Type is more akin to the 5 Series, but I am not 100% about the face of S-type. I like the look of the XJ and of course it is lighter than an S.

It's a car I would put on my list as a replacement for our Boxster, at the end of the day it will come down to the trade in deal on our Boxster.
