Help - XJR Vibration

Hi,

Anyone come across the following:-

XJR 97 V8 has a vibration at 2000 rpm, I've had the wheels balanced and it's got new wheel bearings, front disks and pads

If it is a specific rpm it's engine.

If it is an issue that happens to be found when you are in 5th at 2000 rpm I would say it is likely to be tyre force variation exciting the chassis.

Balancing the wheels will do nothing to fix this. You need to go to a tyre specialist with a Hunter 9700 machine, have the tyres measured and if necessary replaced.

There is a Jaguar procedure that dealers can use to correct this - and it would be worthwhile to follow it.

Hi Simon,
if it's a felt vibration, like a sensation throught the seat or the floorpan and is most noticeable at this speed on an even throttle, it is almost certainly propshaft vibration.
The XJ saloons have always been sensitive to this right from the Series 1 on.
The cure is to have the shaft re-aligned or balanced, or completely replaced.

I had exactly the same problem...(on an e class though )

Turned out to need a new rubber doughnut () on the propshaft....

Turned out to be a loose bolt on the prop shaft front UV joint. Cheapest fix I think I'll ever have on this car!

It is bloody brilliant now!!!!!
