I wonder if anyone who has been running an XE for any length of time care to comment on how good it is to live with.

I'm very tempted by one of the new petrol 250's or 300's in portfolio trim as my new daily.. Took a 250 out for a 40 minute blast the other day and it certainly hustles nicely and was a pretty nice place to be. Never done a Jag before - so quite tempted.

Oh and any must have options ..

I'm currently thinking pan roof, heated windscreen, folding mirrors, parking sensors/camera, split seats, the detachable towbar (I have an occasional need to move a trailer), the 18" space saver wheel and 18" alloys with the solid Caldera red paint and oyster leather.

The Jag finance deals don't look too bad - though it may be cheaper on a lease working the numbers I have at the moment..

It's either this or keep the v40 and buy a used GT86 instead.. hmmmm

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks,

S,

I've had an XE S for just over a year and it's a wonderful car. It looks great, the interior is a lovely place to be (some have moaned about some of the plastics but I don't notice), it's smooth when you want it to and a beast when you want something a bit more spirited. The auto gearbox is normally good at knowing which gear to be in, I rarely get frustrated and start changing gears myself, but when overtaking it's better to use the flappy paddles to drop down a gear.

Have a look at xeforums.co.uk for advice on must-haves, but I think space saver wheel, split/fold rear seat, upgrade infotainment to In Control Touch Pro (the one with surround sound is probably overkill). Some have found the standard seats not that comfortable for long journeys so get the fully adjustable ones (18-way if I remember correctly). I can't remember which safety systems were standard and which were options, but the blind spot monitoring and radar cruise control are pretty useful.

Had my 180 diseaseal r-sport for just over a month now. On the whole, quality-wise it's good. It does have a few interior plastics rattle from time to time, but I just but that down to British charm.

The boot is a bit crap, and the infotainment system is a bit buggy, but to drive I have to say it's just as good, if not questionably better than the other cars in its class.

Options wise, if you like listening to anything at all on the radio, get the meridian sound system because the standard one is a bit pants, black pack is nice if chrome's not your thing aswell.

The lease deals are really good at the moment, and with options worked out considerably cheaper than a BMW 318d with no options. Great value.

Thanks,
That really supported the test drive experience - and the new 250 has a fair bit of get up and go....

I was going portfolio spec so got the meridian and the Bi-Xenon, and prefer the look/feel of the seats to the two tone ones in the R-Sport, though have added lumbar support.. I wasn't going to go for incontrol - though it's just doable keeping the list price under 40K.

Had been looking at the lease costs and they are making a lot of of sense on a 3 or 4 year deal, my big problem is I'm really not sure about my mileage due to changing roles at work, though pegging it at around 12K means I just take the train more... it's a 200 mile round trip to my nearest office, and a little more to the airport. Doesn't take a lot of those to mount up.

2.4K and a further £1600 dealer contribution -and about 2.5K extra over WBAC on my trade in - on a 39K car comes to about 15%, and thats without any pressure...

Of course with a lease - I'll have to keep the car rather than bailing out of it after a year or so. That will make the OH happy, and I've got to sell my current car myself - I can see a trip to WBAC coming along.

The cash in my v40 - is about the saving the lease gives me over PCP over 3 years if my numbers are correct....

The GT86 - whilst fun and surprisingly comfortable is a bit brappy in the exhaust department as soon as you put the throttle down, and could do with a few more horses, say about 20-30.. So modding a used one gets me right up into lease territory anyway...

Decisions Decisions....
