Update. The place from whom i bought the car have spoken to Jaguar and been told the there was no polystyrene block or anything like that on a car where a space saver was NOT selected as an option. This being the case does anyone know where the locking wheel nut key normally lives - and where the towing eye is (assuming I should have one) ?

Thanks

ETA what I really need is someone with a 2012 facelift XK that was not specified with a space saver to tell me what is in their boot ! What are the chances such a person might read this ?

I just wish the button for the electric roof was on the centre console (like Mercs) not the roof; I feel a right dick with my finger stuck up in the air for 20+ secs! It should be where the 'Automatic Speed Limiter' button is - what a waste of a very nice button I'll never use!
Get yourself a remote roof kit. I installed one in my XKR and it is worth every penny.

Remote open the roof and lower windows with 3 clicks on the remote open door button as you approach the car.
1 touch operation of the roof when you're in the car. open or close.
Remote close the roof and windows with 3 clicks of the lock button as you walk away, assuming you haven't already closed the roof as you did the final parking up because:
roof can be operated up to 30 miles an hour although recommended only below 15mph
And finally, rear windows can be added to functionality to allow you to put the rear windows up when the roof is down so you get better wind deflection at speed. Combine this option with a rear wind shield and motorway wind does nothing more than ruffle the top of you head, you can even talk to your passenger and listen to tunes at 90+mph. smile

My 2010 has a space saver in the boot. I know this for sure as I took it out last weekend, inflated it to 60, polished it, tyre blacked it and put it back under the floor. I know, I'm sad, but I had a couple of hours to just pootle and was fitting a charger cable/connector in the boot so I was kinda in that space anyways. biggrin

Not sure about an insert without the space saver.

This is what I have now

That's the wheel bag I mentioned under the wheel

You should have that small insert in yours with the tow eye and locking wheel nut.

Thanks Jon. The handbook says I should find the towing eye in a 'tool kit' under the luggage compartment (by which I assume they mean in the wheel well). That could well be the small insert in your pic with the place for the locking nut key and towtowing eye (although not sure they can call that a tool kit !)

I came across that on an American site, about $300 IIRC - though I'm not going to start dabbling with electrics so would need someone to fit it. Does it modify the function of the existing roof button or do I have to keep getting the fob out and fiddling with it like a teenager texting his 'm8s'?

How much battery power does it use to raise/lower the hood? I'm a bit paranoid about flat batteries.

I bought the kit through Adamesh, it's the same kit as the american guy, he sends them to Adamesh to resell.

The kit is spot on can can easily be installed so long you're able to sit in the back of the car for an hour or so wiring it in, the instructions are literally step by step fool proof.

Once installed, operation from outside the car is via the standard fob... when in the car it's via single touch operation of the standard buttons.

The rear windows are controlled with three pulls in the passenger window button on the driver's side panel.

I'm a bit OCD about batteries being charged as well. No idea how much it uses, but you're not likely to be sat there lowering it, then upping it repeatedly... well, not after the intial play time has finished . smile

To be fair to the guy who's designed and built it, it been done brilliantly. Why JLR never did something similar is beyond me. Worth every penny IMHO.

I think so. You can see the spaces for the towing eye and wheelnut jobbie in the main tray as well - so I'd guess cars either had one or the other.

Very useful, thanks. Couldn't possibly spend an hour in the back though - tried getting in the back once and regretted it! I think I'll leave mine as is for now, at least until the warranty runs out in 4 months and I'm happier with its reliabililty.

Sorry, I forgot to ask. What actually was in the boot then (tool kit wise) on your two cars and what did that look like ?

Thanks

Just the wheel well shaped carpet which I removed to fit my space saver wheel and that small foam towing eye carrier that you can se in the picture.

I have two wheel well shaped carpets if any one wants one. Free to a good home.

That sounds good. I just have exposed metal wheel well. Should I have carpet in there ?

Yes, Once the lid with the rails is open, there should be a carpet shaped like wheel well with edges. Well I say that, but there's always been one in both of my XK's

Sorry, I was being a numpty. I do have the shaped carpet ! Dont ask ! But I definitely don't have the shaped polystyrene block that should live under there in the left hand side (with the tow eye etc in it).

Just wondering how you have ended up with a spare carpet. Did you forget to put it back in one that you sold / part exed ?

Sold the XK privately and totally forgot to put the carpet back in. So, if you are out there and reading this, I have your carpet.

I wonder if they could have incorporated a well into the boot floor so you have all the volume in one space not two? Would cost more I suppose.

...just to finish the story, the dealer eventually sent me the small poly block with tow eye. The prev owner had removed this when he installed a full space saver spare. He took the space saver out to put in his new XK but forgot to put back in the original poly block when he did so.

But....i'd really like a space saver kit like the below. Does anyone know the correct Jag part code for this. EBay seem to have a few (sometimes wheels only without the jack / brace ?) but not sure which exact wheel wil fit my car (2012 facelift XK with standard brakes runing on 20" Selena alloys). Thanks all.

Might be worth a call to Eurojag (01325 722777) they break lots of accident damaged Jags right up to the very latest. Statistically most accidents are front end, so you might get lucky with all the parts you need.
