I have been having a good old read on a few Jag forums and this is what I conclude from it all. On start up they Open quickly then close at 1100 rpm-3500rpm then opens again. If you Press S Dynamic in N or P the valves open, If you use S/Manual Shifts when on the move they stay open.
If you want the Dynamic sound under 4k revs (open) removing Fuse 19 will stop/cancel ECU and the valves will stay open at all time i.e driving in D mode (if you didn't want dynamic driving). Though it is not all confirmed.
Why don't Jaguar tell people in the manual what these settings actually do, rather than just providing buttons marked 'Sport' and Dynamic' with no explanation other than 'enhanced B-Road performance', which is meaningless marketing-speak?If you want the Dynamic sound under 4k revs (open) removing Fuse 19 will stop/cancel ECU and the valves will stay open at all time i.e driving in D mode (if you didn't want dynamic driving). In my XF I found it to be roughtly:
'Sport': Subtracted 1 from whatever gear you are in regardless of throttle position or engine load (the XK seems to be the same)
'Dynamic': Made the car perform like my S-Type, ie properly.
All passed Service& new Mot with no advisory . I took out Fuse 19! I struggled reaching over getting the cover off more than anything! I was more intrigued to see what difference it makes and sound like more than anything else. It seemed a little louder on start up so far and I will take for a good run tomorrow to see if I can notice anything lower down the rev range and I may put it back yet, we shall see.
I must say I will never get bored of being in Dynamic & S mode with manual shifts! Ave mpg 16 today.
I still haven't managed to get good weather for a nice few photos. I snapped these quickly on the way home through the B roads before it rained again but the Sun came out at the wrong time so reflected a little!
White & Black. New Facelift with the upgraded Performance Seats, Dynamic Speed&Black Pack. I wasn't sure on White but in person it looks really good and really suits the car. The photos do not do this car justice when on the road or behind it.

I saw the title of this thread and thought of me!
Yesterday afternoon I brought home my newly-acquired XKR 5.0 Coupe in Ultimate Black. Early days but the drive home was very pleasant, and after a few hours with my preferred cleaning and polishing materials it is looking very well.
The only hiccup is the fuel gauge, which was reading one bar and after 60 quids-worth of Super Unleaded still shows only one bar, but it isn't something I'll fret over for the moment. My brother has an XJ8 (X350) so I am used to unpredictable Jag electrics.

A nice dial, that's what you need. (and one less function to scroll around when you're trying not to run over children). Oops, being old-fashioned, sorry!RB CV8 said:

It sounds nice .Well done, I hope you are enjoying yours as much as I am mine. That engine noise! ..It is a really nice cruising car and I thought having 20" rims would be harsh but the active set up makes for a really nice comfy drive.Yesterday afternoon I brought home my newly-acquired XKR 5.0 Coupe in Ultimate Black. Regarding the fuel gauge, as above it is a shame everything is on ecu these days even the oil level. At least we have the speed/rev dials still!
Did you buy from a dealer? Could you pop it back there as you only just brought it?
I would say the software needs a quick restart/battery may have got low etc.. If you know anyone with Jaguar diagnostics they could just plug in and test or reset very easy. It is very unlikely it is more than that, if it is a sensor somewhere or faulty this should show up and hopefully you get it sorted.

I was also concerned about ride quality but it is much better than I expected, although Cambridgeshire roads are bad enough to upset anything, so today's run should be quite revealing.
The fuel gauge had a higher reading when I had the test drive so I assumed the level had dropped in the interim with running about to get the MoT etc. Then once I filled up I thought that perhaps there might be a reset feature or something.
I did buy from a dealer but they are not local, so in all honesty it is easier to get it sorted myself. There is a respected Jaguar specialist a lot closer and my usual place is pretty good with all sorts of stuff.
The exhaust was changed before I collected the car - it had an "uprated" one that was too noisy and boomy for my liking, so a standard one went back on - so I did wonder if there is any wiring to the sender that may have been dislodged during the work. I will have a look under there during the week.
The trip computer appears OK, so I have the range reading to refer to in the meantime.
