Another XF 3.0 diesel blown engine (at 53,800 miles)
Discussion
As sure as it’s possible to be. The ex-employed mechanic from EW has been assisting in the engine recovery and rebuild process for some of the other stranded vehicles at the Paisley garage (including a Maserati, now completed and away!) and he rescued my engine. He knew it as he dismantled it in the first place. He was at the Dumbarton site again today looking for my turbo, and missing injectors for a Range Rover rebuild.

Agree.
It’s been a humbling and humiliating experience. I chose the company because of the reputation of warranty companies not paying up, and in that case it would still be doable.
Lesson well and truly rearmed.
Still at an impasse, as the turbo had been nicked, and the old engine needs reassembled at my expense before returning the JLR or incur a £1500 surcharge.
Not there yet.........
Talk about buses. You wait ages for an anonymous Scotsman and then two turn up at once It’s been a humbling and humiliating experience. I chose the company because of the reputation of warranty companies not paying up, and in that case it would still be doable.

You've certainly had an unusual adventure with your engine "rebuild", almost unbelievable.
You couldn't make it up could you?
Still it could be worse. They only stole one of your two turbos and your unbroken/broken crankshaft hasn't been stolen too.
I look forward to the next instalment.
BTW I think you were rather foolish to pay £1750 up front before the shop even knew whether your engine was salvageable. Still, as you say, you live and learn.
Hey, thanks for moral support!
Car back and running very nicely with replacement engine from JLR at huge expense, including the salvage and reassembley of the old unit. There were so many parts missing, and JLR would not even accept the unit back unless it was complete and reassembled. Unbelievable yet again. Customer care ZERO.
Douglas McFadzean at Prestige Jaguar in Paisley (Independant) was brilliant, as he hunted down a breaker who had a similar car. He got them to take off all the bits we needed, both for reassembling the failed engine and fixing all the bits not supplied or missing onto the new engine. It was an epic task, and one never to be repeated.
As I said earlier the one unexpected area of calm and not one hassle was Warranty Direct, who paid out £8.5k without batting a proverbial eyelid.
It’s electric for me very soon. Or PHEV at least....!

Dougie is an absolute diamond of a guy. Been going to Prestige with my 3.0d XF for over 2 years now. He never carries out unnecessary work and is happy to take and make calls giving general advice.
I live in Glasgow but I would still use him even if I stayed as far away as Manchester, he's that good!
