Wobbly barge is one thing they are not ... and you don't have to have the electric side steps.

Hi all
First post on here after lurking about for a bit reading all the good information from yourselves, in need of help.
Time for a new car, and I quite like the F-Pace. I was also considering an X5 although my wife is a bit concerned it's too bulky, she suggested an X3 which I know is similar to F-Pace in size but just does not look as good for my personal preference.
Any suggestions on F-Pace model for 7-10,000 p.a mileage? Should I avoid the Diesel and go for the Petrol?
Also, quite like the 3L version as want a bit of power behind, but how thirsty is the Petrol version?
Not against Diesel but want to avoid DPF issues given it's more local and town driving with odd motorway journey rather than full on motorway drives each week.
Alsooooo, one last question, lot of rumours about Govt scrappage scheme coming about, although may only incentivise on Hybrid/Electric. Does anyone reckon they will extend across all cars including Petrol/Diesel? Seems unlikely but I hear the Motoring bodies and manufacturers are pushing for it.

yes thanks for letting me steal your thunder Gary - I did notice that, and I know the XC40/60/90 has some really good reviews, I just feel like for too many years I never picked up the car I wanted that gave me a bit of an 'oopmh', usually going for the safer option. Dont go with the 4 pot. I had an XF and clocked 80k in 2 years with work in if. Motorways were a little frustrating with the high end speeds and it felt guttless. I change it for a 3lt XJ and the engine is a dream. Go for a S!!
Dean, yes I have heard from a few that the difference in the 3L is noticeable, and the extra power worth going for. Main issue is Petrol vs Diesel, especially given the lack of major motorway driving generally. DiamondLights said:

As I said, I got the petrol, T4. Didn't want a diesel and was trying pretty much every 4x4. I just sat in the XC and loved the feel of it - great interior and the T4 engine is more than I need.
The great thing is that there is a car for everyone out there somewhere
i think the thing for me, is that I can get a decent spec F-Pace for less than a decent spec X5. Now granted the X5 is bigger, but the Boot space which is important for me is the same on the F-Pace as the X5, despite the X5 being the bigger car.
At first glance it looks like X5 would cost maybe £7-10K more than the F-Pace to get comparable output both internally and engine wise, so hence why my initial thought is F-Pace (Sport 300 or potentially S Model).

A timely thread revival from last week as I have just driven both an E-Pace & F-Pace at my local JLR dealership.
The E-Pace is out (I'm too big for it) but the F-Pace is definitely in. I don't understand some of the comments about it being a wobbly barge earlier in this thread. This was one of my first drives as I go exploring in the SUV market for a new car, but I found the F-Pace to be surprising dynamic and actually pretty settled when I was chucking it into corners.
I drove the c.240PS diesel engine, and will be returning to drive the 250PS petrol engine as that would be my preference. Having seen this thread however I am now questioning whether I need to creep up to the 300PS engine... Would anyone like to elaborate or expand on why the four-pot is a no no? Does it run out of legs on motorways when you're trying to do the 50 - 70mph squirt? Or is it struggling in other parts of the day-to-day driving?

If i'm spending that much on a car, I want it to be smooth inside and out, and I've now switched focus to the X5.
Personal preference but if I am going to be sat inside the car where ever i drive, i want the best features to accompany.

Have you considered the Volvo XC60. Lovely place to be in. I have an XC60 T5 Inscription Pro with a fair few options. The drive is lovely (having come from an XKR convertible then a Jeep WK1 SRT8) and just a great place for 4 adults to get from one place to another in luxury. Did I mention the heat/ventilated massaging front seats The E-Pace is out (I'm too big for it) but the F-Pace is definitely in. Mine is almost 2 years old (from new) and has been battered by my 2 kids (now 12 and 3) and still everything in its place and no squeaks etc.
My detailing friend (Buff Daddy, check out his link here: https://www.facebook.com/buffdaddydetail/posts/131... ) gave it the once over recently too
Oh and it does get used, I've got an oil barrel drum, wood palette, 4 of 1.8,x0.9m trellis's and a load of compost sacks in there

Especially when you can visible see the potential jump in terms of perceived interior quality and technology when you compare old vs. new Evoque.
I then can't help but think that the new-ish Audi Q3 is a much nicer place to be... I don't need the extra space an F-Pace provides either, so it's starting to get pushed out of the running in terms of SUV shopping.

Let me know where you land. Did you consider the X3? Similar size to the F-Pace and comes with the same level of kit as X5 interior wise. I have heard good things on the Audi but from most reviews I read, the BMW iDrive console is the top of the range, hence why i shifted there. For example (and it sounds silly and you wonder how often you will use), both F-Pace and X3/5 have Park Assist. But whereas the Jaguar requires the driver to shift gears manually between D and R, the BMW does it automatically. And like i said, most reviews show the Jaguar to be laggy on the screen processes. Maybe that's solved in next gen.

Motorway cruise set at 85 screen tells emits doing 46 mpg
2 dead comfy, happily do 8 hours in a day
3 wireless dab really good
4 for a £400 pm lease car it's good value
Had no problems at all, nothing falling off
Interior in beige still looks good despite muddy dog and muddied 4 year old. I use it for top runs rather than range rover or land rover as they actually belong to me
