Hi - seriously considering a V6 F-Type to replace my Boxster. Would be the coupe and not the roadster. I've been reading up, but wanted to canvas current owners in terms of what the "must have" options are? It will have to be the V6 from a price perspective, so I'm more into real world opinions of living with the car and stuff that current owners either miss or couldn't be without.

Any pointers gratefully received.

For the Coupe, all only in my opinion of course!

Must haves:
Panoramic Roof.
Exhaust Switch (which means you don’t have to put the car into Dynamic mode to get the deeper noise).
Fully electric seats, we don’t have them in ours and I definitely miss them.
Cruise Control, yep it’s a 60k car that up to 17MY didn’t have it as standard!
Rear Camera (wouldn’t be without it)
19” or 20” wheels (I’m sure the ride quality is better but some people stuck with 18’s and the car just doesn’t look right)

Nice to haves:
The 380w Meridian System, none of the audio sounds great in an F-Type but I think the 380w sounds best and for MY15/16 Cars you get the updated media interface with the 380w.
Heated seats and steering wheel, the heating and ventilation is very good on the F-Type but I guess some people prefer direct heat.
Black Pack on certain colours I.e the Whites and solid reds (Salsa and Caldera) on the darker colours I don’t think the Black Pack works
Blind Spot Monitoring, I don’t find the visibility too bad at all but I can see why it would be useful if (and I have seen differing opinions) it is accurate.

Wouldn’t worry about:
The performance seats, look a bit better but aren’t as comfortable in my opinion (I’m 6’ 3” and I’m perfectly comfortable in the F-Type)
The 770w Meridian, seem to be some complaints with it
Powered Tailgate had it on my last two cars not bothered in the slightest by its absence.

After-Market
Alloy Gators, I’m honestly not the worlds worst at parking but bloody hell the F-Type is wide and if it’s on 20” wheels then the first sound you hear to let you know you got it wrong is a grinding noise from the wheel shortly followed by a grinding noise from your teeth!

That’s my quick list, any questions please don’t hesitate to ping me.

Regards Mike

Can I just add different tyres to that list? Factory fit is P-zeros and they are absolute crap in the wet. The instant torque from the supercharger means you will spin them up all the bloody time, and have no confidence when pushing into a corner. I would budget for replacing them or try to find a car that has already with Michelins (ideally PS4S), if you're planning to drive it even remotely quickly.

Do you really need an exhaust switch?

Absolutely not from any sensible point of view.
From the un-sensible point of view of my inner 10 year old it’s the first thing I press.

Slightly more sensible answer would be, the engine note is definitely more pleasant with the valves open but without the button you have to be in Dynamic mode for them to be so, but the Dynamic mode accelerator mapping is quite aggressive and thus the button is quite useful.

Yep completely agree and I should have added to my after-market section.

I should have added you can size-up to 305s at the rear which helps with rim protection as well as traction.

Having owned and driven a V6S Coupe 8k miles in a year I would suggest the best option to choose is 2 extra cylinders ,buy a V8R....you won't regret it and 50k will buy one now.

I have had a V6S since August, bought when 9 months old.
For me it had to have the Pan roof & Performance seats. Fortunately it had a lot more (10k in extras) & needless to say the Heated seats & wheel have been a major bonus this winter.
Save yourself a packet, get a nearly new well specced car & you will love it.

If you really want to spoil yourself in winter pop a core heater in the car and plug her in on a timer switch so everything is up to temperature waiting for you in the morning. I had one fitted to my X300 after the first cold morning after evicting her from the garage. biggrin Bliss biggrin
Can't understand why they aren't standard equipment. Means the engine never has to go through that running rich phase we used to call the choke either.

IIRC BMW 7-Series in the 1990s used to have a catalytic heater as an option that you could set to start before you got in.

The scariest thing was my diesel S-Type which had some sort of extra heater fitted, I think to supply warm air to the cabin before the engine was warm enough to do it. I hear it burned diesel but had no emissions control... on a cold day in the right conditions clouds of grey smoke would pour out of the NSF wheel well and make it look like the car was about to burst into flames!

I've just moved from a 987 boxster to an F-Type V6S Coupe, that I picked up yesterday, and I'm having so much fun with the F-Type

Must haves for me...
Reverse camera, visibility out back isn't great otherwise.
Heated seats, just make winter so much more bearable, especially if you want the windows open to hear the exhaust crackle.
Pano roof - really lightens up the inside.

Things I like...
Design pack, it gives you side sills and a more aggressive look
Xenons with auto-light (I don't think this is standard) this was a pleasant surprise, it auto switches on the high beams when there's no cars in front, and turns them off when something comes towards you. Makes night time driving on country roads so much easier.
Upgraded electric seats - I have to manually pull my chair forward, seems archaic for such an expensive modern car.
