Jaguar I-Pace lease thread
Discussion
Doing the man maths on this just now. I run my car through my company on Business Contract Hire so the upcoming BIK changes at April 2020 make a big change and probably (most likely) mean I'll be making a huge leap in the monthly cost to the company but with a considerable benefit to me so it all washes through at about the same total cost overall (I think).
I currently lease a 330d at what equates to 30p/mile (6+47/15k m pa) +VAT. List price of the car was a whisker under £40k inc.VAT. The i-Pace HSE (because if I'm spending a stload of money, I need to get ALL the bells and whistles) lists as £75,000inc VAT and works out at 85p/mile (6+35/12k m pa)+VAT on lease. So already I'm comparing apples and pears.
The lease costs are directly allowable expenditure through the company so increased cost = less profit = less Corporation Tax to pay. The Jaguar annual lease costs vs BMW lease costs are, in round numbers, £5000pa (ex VAT) more so by adding costs I am paying about £1,000 less Corporation Tax.
The big kicker though is that come 2020, the BIK on the BMW is 31% so as a 40% taxpayer that'll cost me personally £4950pa. The BIK on the i-Pace is 2%, cost to me - £600pa. So, personally I am £4400 better off a year.
I pay for private fuel which is by far the majority in the BMW and at 129p/litre works out at £1,800pa for 12k miles. I'm expecting 2 charges a week on the i-Pace at about £3 a charge (correct me if I'm wrong on that) so 'fuel' costs are £300 or so a year. I've saved myself £1500pa.
So, the company has increased its costs by about £5,000pa but I have improved my personal financial position by about £5,900pa while driving a car that costs twice as much.
Is this man maths gone mad? I'd be delighted if someone would confirm or disprove my analysis....
Or, another way, to maybe compare on a more like-with-like basis, the current best price I can find for a 330d on a 6+35/12k m pa BCH is £564/month or 64p/mile (+VAT). So the additional costs to the company are coming anyway (assuming I want to maintain a standard) and the additional step up to the i-Pace isn't as dramatic as first thought.
Brain. Fried. Help, anyone?

Got a firm delivery date for my car now. Looking at early March. Have to say I am quite impressed with Fleetprices (no affiliation!)
Ordered my mats from ebay, so just need to wait another few weeks now
Awesome, but seriously, having to buy your own mats for a £60k car??Ordered my mats from ebay, so just need to wait another few weeks now
Speccing one currently and cant find any definitive yes or no on air suspension
Is it worth it? Comfort is very important to us.. and is the dynamic part (listed as a separate cost) a no brainer if selecting air susp.?
Are there other must haves?
Thinking the hse because we want the 18 way heated / cooled seats but we could always add them to an se as theyre not too expensive at 1600, not looked at the price difference se - hse though yet, you do get the surround sound with the hse to which would be nice but not an essential
Thoughts? Mainly on how beneficial the air Suspension is as its not included on any of the trim levels

I think the ride will depend on wheels and tyres. On the stock 18s on steel suspension I find the ride very nice and actually better than my A6 which is on air in comfort mode.
If you are going for big wheels then its probably another story and most of the cars I have driven on really big wheels (Macan / Cayenne ) have defo felt a lot nicer on air.

Thanks, The hse comes with the larger wheels but we’re not bothered about having them, im fine with 18s so guessing its a no cost down grade.. Having driven a demo on 22" wheels and air suspension and my car of 18" and steel suspension. I think that the better option would be mid size wheels 20" and air suspension. Not decrying the 18" and steel suspension, it is very good given what is being asked to do, but if it was my own money, I would go for 20" and air, with the dynamic settings. If I had 22" wheels I would be paranoid. The salesman when handing over the demo said 'whatever you do, don't kerb the wheels'!
The standard Meridian is fantastic, just feed it with lossless recordings via the USB and it really shines.
For me, ideal specification would be:
- S (why spend any more?)
- White (as the lighter colours show up the body structure / curves better IMHO)
- Black pack
- Black 20" Wheels
- Adaptive air
- Cheapest seat with lumbar support as I have a bad back and I am not sure if the seat is the problem - 1st long trip on Thursday so we will find out
- Driver pack
You don't need anything else. And I'm really missing the adaptive cruise from my Golf (I had become lazy!).

Folks, for those of us that have them, there appears to be a recall going out to tweak the regen failure reaction time.
