I was a probably a bit too harsh in my comments about the new XJ, I'll probably consider one in a couple of years when they have dropped another £10k.
It does appear that there are plans to update it with a less overtly retro body.
Personally I think that all they need to do is lower the roof and increase the rake of the rear window.
There was a photoshopped example of what an XJ coupe might look like and it was absolutely gorgeous. I'll see if I can find it.

I have a 2002 XJR 100 with 13,925 on the clock.
Very special car indeed. Just joined PH to enter the 100 discussion.
Tyres are quoted from jag dealer as 370 bucks a corner, but I got a pair for 400 shopping around. (255 35 R19 PZero all round assimetricos or rossos now as they stopped the assis in that size.)
Brake pads from jag 640 fitted. 305.5 for the front 212 for the back and 104+vat for fitting. Brembo pads seem to be extortionate.
Servicing look at around 450 quid.
Fuel about 240 ish to 70 quid no matter how you drive it really.
Hope the info was of some use!
P.S. You can buy mine in december when its replacement comes!!

Update
------
Drove an '03 XJR on Saturday.
Oh dear. That is one seriously good car. The handling, ride and steering are fantastic. My predudice against the new XJ have been blown apart. The interior is lovely and really the only slight flaw with driving it was a slightly hesitant kickdown from the autobox.
I don't think I could have an older XJR now, not even a 100.
Anyone know if metallic black with black and red interior is a common colour scheme, or so rare that we should go for the one we saw on Saturday?

oh no! I guess it's going to cost you a fair bit more...
have a look at www.dandmbr.co.uk/jaguar/ for lots of useful info on the new shape (X350) XJ (mine is the black XJR pictured)
Black is popular but it tends to be with ivory or black interior as I seem to recall
