JLR customer service is still adamant that the noise reduction was due to EU regulation.
Have they forgotten about Brexit?
I suspect that compliance with EU regs will figure very highly in the requirements for JLR. Whatever your opinions on Brexit may be, industry will be very pragmatic when it comes to design with 2 sets of regulatory requirements to pass.

I suspect that as earlier poster got this right, JLR updated the ECU map to comply with the the newer regulations and are not running 2 parallel sets of software for the same engine.

OP - did the software update fix the original problem?

Nope, didn't fix the original issue.

Will the dealer remove the update and restore the “as supplied” software or is that when the planes you off on JLR customer services?

Can't you just take it an indie and get it sorted, I know it's not big or clever, but I didn't stop playing with my TVR exhaust until I'd got the illusive 130dB.

130dB? 'Course it was old Son.

I'll bet you measured it in an anechoic chamber with independently calibrated instruments and everything too, and no doubt the technician running the test will have told you straight away exposure to 130dB will almost certainly result in instantaneous and permanent hearing damage.

But yeah, 130dB. 'Course it was rolleyes

Good for boasting down the pub though.

The car is still under warranty. Any modification would make the warranty void.

Roll your eyes as much as you want, but it's true, I used an I Phone app as we all do, in fact from memory it was just over 130dB hehe

Don't sweat it mate.

JaguarSteve loves a bit of judgemental condescension.

Well without taking this whole subject too seriously a fighter jet is 130dB at say 50m distance (guess), rather than the prescribed 1 metre approx when measured for a track day........Cadwell Park 3/4 revs 121dB, no track day for me

50 feet.

Measure it again and show us a screen shot then smile

Don't forget to wear ear protectors, the maximum recommended time to prevent hearing damage at 130 db's is nil seconds.

Yes of course, have you heard from any other owners that this has happened to?

Car’s now sold, hence me being on the Jag page, hoping for some positive advice and assistance with buying an F Type

I guess that confirms it then smile

Sorry, I said shout I GUESS THAT CONFIRMS IT THEN.

I can't believe I ever doubted you but those ear plugs mean business, perfect for 130 db's.

I know I’m getting a bit of ribbing regarding exhaust noise, but it really would stop me buying one if the exhaust was quietened scratchchin

Jaguar V12s should generally purrrrrrrrrr
Except down at Winspeed last year they had an V12 E Type with the most glorious spine tingling howl I've ever heard from a car. It wasn't mega loud, just sounded fabulous. Obviously no artificial programmed in pops.
