I’ve got my eye on a few sportbrakes, high spec models, one is V6 and the other is a petrol both 2019 model year.

Does anyone own a petrol sportbrake on here, what is the i4 engine like? Mpg around town, auto trader says 31mpg, other places differ.

I don’t undertake many miles a year hence why I’m attracted to the petrol, at the moment I’m driving a transporter TSI which is not the best on fuel, would like some improvement on 27mpg.

My understanding is the diesel V6 is a very nice engine and more sought after, again real world mpg around town from any owners on here be a great insight.

Any advice be greatly received.

Cheers
Andy

I’ve a 2018 25t sportbrake.

I’ve measured 36mpg on a long predominant motorway drive.
About 26 mpg towing my trailer (race car covered trailer about 1700kg loaded)
Never really measured about town driving I would best guess at 25-28.
I only use normal drive mode, never really bothered with sport or eco.

I went for petrol because my wife was supposed to be using it as her daily so only a 5 mile there and 5 mile back journey which would have killed a diesel.
But she won’t drive it because she doesn’t want to park it at her works.

I really like it , very smooth engine and can pick up its heels if required, more gadgets than I’d even consider using.

Might be up for sale soon!!!!

I've got a 2014 3.0D Sportbrake. Motorway MPG can be as high as 55, mixed in the low 40s and around town low 30s - for some reason if my Wife drives it always drops a couple of MPG (I think she secretly quite likes driving it).

Only big drawback being a 2014 model is that it's not ULEZ compliant. frown

I’ve experienced the petrol I4 in a few jags as courtesy cars, and refined they’re not. They always sound like they’re working overtime when you’re just asking not a lot out of it. The worst installation has to be in the F-Type P300. The I4 in my JCW is better in so many ways.

I have a P250 XF Sportbrake with the i4, 2021 model.

It's not that efficient, I track the mileage each fill and over 9k miles I'm averaging 28.9mpg. To be fair I wasn't expecting that much better. I don't think I drive in a particularly uneconomical way (those days are faily well behind me).

The trouble is it likes to change down at every opportunity as it's probably quite a small engine for such a big car. If they still did a 3l petrol I would have got one, but I much preferred the new interior when I was buying and now they only do 2l.

Unlike the last poster I actually find the engine to be quite smooth and refined, but I do wish it had a bit more grunt (came from a BMW 430d). It's a lovely comfortable family car but I probably woundn't go 2l next time around.

Thanks everyone for the replies, some really insightful comments.

In the end I went for the boring option and stuck with VW namely a Passat GTE, the hybrid system works well for my short journey's around town and in estate form I can still carry all my kit.

Hopefully Jaguar comes out with a hybrid XF sport brake soon.
