I apologise if this has been done to death, but I can't see any recent threads on this. I have just bought a S2 (LHD US spec) and want to fit electronic ignition. Can anyone recommend a good system. I have been looking at the 123 ignition system but am a little confused and worried about reports that the rev counter may not work without modification (is this true?)

Any help would be appreciated. In addition, what else would people recommend I do to improve reliability (noting I do not have an unlimited budget)

Ignition Impulse Tacho on the Series 2 which is totally different to the Series 1 which is powered by an AC Generator . I have had many friends over the years who have carried out the same Conversion . You want the E Type Section of any Jaguar forum in order to correspond with fellow Owners , the JDC also have a worthwhile E Type resource and well worth exploiting .

Thanks. I have joined the JDC.
From what I now understand, a simple wiring change of the electronic ignition (over the instructions supplied) will enable the rev counter to work on an S2. I am still interested however in peoples opinion on their reliability and benefits.

You really want to be utilising a resource such as the above , I suspect you may struggle to get the same depth of knowledge on Pistonheads at least in the short term .

Hi, I fitted a 123 programmable unit to an XK engine been very reliable. I needed to make changes to the standard distributor due to higher compression and different fuelling. Gives you the option to have two maps installed that can be selected via a switch say for different fuels.

Thanks buddyspire and reddiesel.

I think the Bluetooth 123 Electronic ignition looks like the one for me, the fact it will also act as an immobiliser clinched it.

I will look at other including: forums.jag-lovers.com, I think you are right, Pistonheads may be good for my TVR but perhaps not the best forum for E Types.

For an E-Type you'd probably get a better answer from the Classic car forum here on PH, but certainly back when I had my XK150 then Jag-Lovers was the main place to go for technical discussions.

Slightly left-field suggestion - it's not as fancy, but I've fitted an Accuspark electronic ignition in the standard dizzy of a couple of other cars and they work a treat. Looks absolutely original as well.

Thank you for the comments and yes I will look at other E-Type forums. But just to close this thread I have decided not to go for a standalone electronic ignition distributer conversion such as the 123 ignition system, but have gone for a Classicfuelinjection.co.uk fuel injection conversion. Included in this is a kit to modify the distributer to electron ignition, to be controlled through the MaxxECU Mini supplied. It is quite a project to fit, but the kit and instructions are quite comprehensive (I am currently about 3/4 way through fitting).
