You have to be really careful with red. The shade has to be right and the Jaguar shade is pretty good but you also need to be careful where the red is. Red on dash tops causes mega glare in the windscreen and the door tops in red is a nightmare too. The Porsche single colour interiors suffer from that too which is why red Porsche interiors look better with the black dashboard and door tops option

Very interesting thread!

I had written off an F type as my next purchase due to a perceived high borkage potential. But it was interesting to read the brave pill piece on the F type recently and the comments stating it wasn't particularly brave!

Having now read through this thread, there are no comments covering seized injectors, leaking diffs and not too many on rotting sub frames.... I may have to add the F type back to my auto trader search!

I wouldn’t be worried about any of that. The only real issue is that rear subframe so just get it sorted and treated and it’s job done. I would really recommend you drive a v6s next to a v8 assuming you are going for a pre facelift as the biggest engine is not, imo, the sweet spot in the range. There are lots of cars around now too so be picky

A quick question. I'm interested in a 2015 V6. I've checked its MOT history and the most recent has this advisory:

NoticeRear Oil Leak, But Not Excessive Differential (8.4.1 (a) (i))

Is this a common issue? Is it an easy fix? Should it affect my offer for the car. Should I steer clear?

Is it an S model? The V6 S cars have a mechanical limited slip differential, not sure how prone to weeping seals those are but minor leaks from the regular Jaguar diffs from the 4.2 and 5.0 XK/XKRs and some F-Types are not common but equally not unheard of either. Not sure what that would cost to put right but yeah I'd want to see evidence that it's been sorted or use that in your negotiating position.

The same MOT (or rather the one a week before) failed the car on excessive wear on rear tyres.

Apparently, that's another sign of a differential problem.

Last month's MOT. The car's done about 27k miles.

Ok there is no way anyone on here can categorically say it’s going to fail one way or the other. You have two choices really. Look at what warranty is available and if it does pop in that time you’re covered or look at another car as there are plenty around. Simple as that really. If it worries you walk away but on the flip side it was an advisory so you have no idea how bad it really was and not so many years ago you would never have known as you couldn’t look up MOTs. Trust your gut.
