Again some great comments following my post yesterday. If we let it, the Jag vs Porsche debate will run until the cows come home for the simple reason, it is subjective. What's important to one, is not so to someone else.

Reddiesel, I can't disagree with anything you say (with one exception) for the simple reason you either state fact (no one can argue with that ie 991 length and engine movement) or personal opinion (this is the subjective part and your reality which you are wholly entitled to).

The part I will disagree on is buying a new car using it's future residual value as a reason for doing so. If I had done that, I would never have had the experiences I have had ( ie Aero 8's, all manner of Jap sports cars). For me, a cars future residual is unimportant. I buy cars to enjoy them, from the heart, not the head. Granted, I am fortunate enough to be able to do that.

I agree "limited edition" Jags are not worth any extra. However, the attraction of buying a new, P575 F Type is precisely because it is end of line. They will not make these cars again. If you want to look at it another way, the same could be said of buying a new 911, or, 718 Spyder - all manufacturers are moving towards electrification, all ICE engined cars are nearing end of life at some point within probably the next 5-10 years.

It is also precisely for that reason that future residuals, 911 or not, are no guarantee. The P575 for me will be a long term garage stablemate. Totally agree it is GT not sports car. Then again, that's also the direction the 911 has moved given it's size, rear seats, and as good as they are, anything less than a Turbo or GT3 will struggle against a Spyder/GT4 in the bendy stuff. The GT4 is Porsches real sports car.

F-Type R P575 AWD 75 24MY ordered. Fuji White, Ebony Windsor leather, Climate Pack, Blind Spot Assist Pack, Fixed Panoramic Roof, Privacy Glass, 20" Style 1066,10 Spoke Gloss Black with contract Diamond Turned finish wheels, Protection Pack and when it arrives, full body PPF treatment. One of the last of it's kind. Looking forward to meeting the 911 boys on the Furka pass. Whilst they may beat me up (and down), I'll be doing it with a big grin on my face and a soundtrack to boot. Bottom line, we're all petrol heads so what does it matter, it's a good thing we're all different.

Congratulations on the Car and the PPF I think is essential . I ditched the 911 GTS and bought a new Vantage , I pick it up on Wednesday after it has had the PPF applied so happy days . Thankfully I dont think there are many Greta Thunberg Disciples on this Forum .

They appear to be asking quite stiff money for the best of those recently

You're right there Red......lifes too short for regrets. Enjoy the Vantage, they're a beautiful looking thing.

Craig, planet destroyers :-) You're right of course. I settle my conscience by kidding myself I offset the CO2 with the ground source heat pump I put in. A bit like how Elton John flies around the world in his private jet then donates to the Carbon Trust to settle his conscience :-)

Of course, I could have gone Taycan to show what a virtuous guy I am.....but I figured when on my way through Europe on a driving tour my comrades wouldn't want to wait for me whilst I a) searched for a charging point b) queued when I'd found one, c) waited an hour for a full charge and d) did the same 200 miles down the road again when travelling at pace!!! I'd still be in Calais whilst they were living it up in the Swiss Alps ;-) Then there's the range anxiety and hotel anxiety hoping where ever we stay they have a charger and it's spare!! Good these EV's aren't they :-0 ;-)

I had the pleasure of meeting an elderly Gentleman in Taycan last week when I parked the 911 opposite him outside M&S . Seeing both cars were in Carmine Red he wound down the passenger window for a chat . It turned out it was his wife's car as he having suffered a stroke no longer drove . Its a great Car he told me , they only did short journeys and had a Charging Point adjacent to their garage . When I asked had he any squeaky bum moments on longer journeys as the charge neared depletion , he freely admitted it was a nightmare . Between Charging Points not working and others already occupied , they were finding that any pleasure they had in ownership was being completely negated by the worry in charging the thing . He told me that after the outlay in purchasing the Taycan buying an ICE runabout just wasnt financially viable and so they were stuck .

For most people it’s a good 5 years too early to be buying an electric car.

Yes, it's definitely too early, if doing any distance. My wife bought a Volvo XC40 Hybrid last year. She rarely does more than 20/30 miles a day. For that kind of use it's perfect as she is rarely on the petrol engine but having the petrol engine gives reassurance.

A friend of mine ordered a Taycan 4S Cross Turismo last year. It comes in six weeks time. He said to me he is already getting range anxiety!!! That story of the old gent Red who parked next to you in the Taycan sums it up......the anxiety removes any fun. I guess we'll all do it in time (buy an EV). But for me (and I suspect a fair few on here), that's some way off. There are too many issues to resolve first (range, cost, charging speed, frequency/reliability of charge points).

I am 60 at the end of the year so I am hoping the ICE will see me off the face of the earth . This Vantage will be the first Car I have ever wrapped completely and I am thinking of just keeping her permanently perhaps with an X350 alongside for the dailies . I dont know what it is but lately I am finding less and less new cars that really attract me , Jaguar for instance have absolutely nothing of interest and I suspect their best years are possibly long gone.
It seems incredible to think that 10 years ago we had the XJR , the STR , the XKR and the XFR to choose from . I simply cant see a return to those halcyon days . It was Jaguars Indian Summer and nobody realised .

Agreed. Bit longer than 10 years ago but in 2009 you could buy all those cars bar the STR. I think the X350 style XJ suited an XJR more than the later X351 did. I think Jaguar are either going to die or be sold soon and if they are sold I fear that they will end up in hands that won’t do what is needed because none of the big players really need a luxury division.

I'm the same Red with this new F Type. It will be my last fun car and will see me out too. I use an F Pace as a daily. Some of my friends have started calling me "Two Jags"!!! How very dare they ;-)

I reckon you're right Craig, Jag will end up in unsympathetic hands. Another reason for my F Type. Possibly one of the last and a reminder of the Halcyon days Red talks of.

Still....if that happens at least we were lucky enough to have experienced it rather than reading about it in books.

JayEm did a good youtube in the last week or so on the future of Jaguar and how important this year will be for them.

Have to agree - unless they are holding back some very interesting top secret developments, they really don't have a lot left in the tank.

Just using the F-type as one example - its awesome, but been around quite a while - then they ditched the V6, the first face-lift was fine - but the second really showed they were struggling (IMO).. and now what?

They need to get a new CEO in there quick and make it someone with real gravitas in the car world. It can’t be the interim guy because as nice as he is, I’ve known him many years, he is an accountant and they never make good CEO,s in my view. Problem is that most suitable candidates will be German and why would you want to move? On top of that 2025 and the relaunch of Jaguar is not far away so how much influence could you have.

Well that was a great read, having just sold a TVR Tuscan 3 full convertible, I have my heart set on an SVR convertible if I can find one that's not black, grey or white, probably asking a lot but you never know.
I assume the rear suffrage is at least painted?
