RE: Jaguar unveils new XK

I do wonder if in the next series of Top Gear there will be a direct comparison on the track between the two cars (new XK vs AMV8). Same engine but de-tuned for the poor Jag...
so the XKR in 1-2 years time will be then like the baby Aston now
I believe Jaguar should have dared more in the design anyway and try to move AWAY from Aston Martin

Oh bloody hell! It is not the same engine, Aston started with the block of the Jaguar engine then completey redesigned it upwards, in th end even changing the block. The internal dimensions aren't even the same so how is this engine de-tuned?
What a hornets nest! At least, looking on the overall bright side, people care enough about Jaguar to have an opinion! The 6-series, while I admit it is a good looking car, will be dated within 5 years, and the Jaguar will still look timeless in 8. If it did not exist, it would be a much more depressing place than if people got upset because they did not like the side vents.

Because everyone on the internet is an expert....or didn't you know that?
I first saw the new XK 2 years ago (I used to work at Jag/ Landy) and my initial reaction was very much the same as all of yours (the design has not changed a bit since then) regarding the Hyundai Coupe-ness of the front end and teh fact that the grille/lights just don't look right. That view has not changed 2 years on.
However, in profile view and looking at the rear end I do think it looks stunning. There's a certain DB9-ness about the rear arches and C-pillar but to be fair, it's a GT and they all have those details.
If you ignore the body crease and imagine an air duct in front of the rear wheels, it looks a lot like a Mk4 Supra in profile view (just add a spoiler).

Don't Ford already make a 4 seater 300bhp coupe, with cool styling, better performance (13.59 second 1/4 mile), leather interior, and far more desireability for only $25,000? It's called the Mustang.
Why bother with something slower, and far more expensive that does the same thing but not as well?
Unless you are a Jaguar fan with more money than sense, theres just no point.

Okay, so I had a look at the new pics. I was gonna say something right after I saw them, but decided to go away and come back after a while. You know; so the new styling can sink in a bit.
Well I'm back and, er, no.
No matter how Ian Callum tries to defend his design, it still looks too much like an Aston. If he's right in saying legislation has strongly influenced his design, then the next 2-plus-2 GT to be released by any other manufacturer should also look like an Aston, right?
I'm sure it will look a bit better when I see one rolling down the streets of London or wherever, but right now I just find the whole thing, well... boring. I think the 6 Series is mug-fugly, but at least it's a very interesting thing to look at. What a disappointment this new XK is.

Not Keen, All the curvature of the XK8 has gone. Jaguar should go back to making small, cleaver luxury sports cars rather that being deliberately neutered (styling nd performace wise) by Ford to keep them below Aston Martin. All the curvature of the XK8 has gone.
An interesting point to note is that this doesnt seem to be the new XK8. The XK8 has been finished; the new car is a completely new model: the "XK" (there is no mention of an "8" in the new car's name). Therefore maintaining styling cues from the old XK8 shouldnt be an issue.
www.jaguar.co.uk/newxk Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but have a look anyway. This may persuade some floating voters. Happy Bank Holiday one and all.
Looks like a cross between a new Mondeo and the previous Peugeot 406 coupe. Very sad ...
The design team (committee?) (parliament?) have made the coupe larger, just as they did with the saloon XJ. That has a distinctive "bloated" or "inflated" look, which may help explain why so few grace our roads.
Jaguar's tagline was "grace, space, pace" in the good old (Mk II) days. Now it's had one corporate makeover too many and it's "grace, SPACE, pace" all the way. Very very sad ...

I think the new XK doesn't cut the mustard and wouldn't swap my present XKR for one, but a Ford Mustang!! Get Real!
