I think all the heater gubbins is controlled by vacums. Try Kirby Palm's manual for some ideas. www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/

Take a look on th Jaguar Enthusiasts Club XJS bulletin board.

www.jec-xjs-forum.org.uk/xjsbb2/index.php

You have to register (but it's free) there's some very helpful people on there.

Bob.

Sounds like the heater control valve which is on the bulkhead in the center, if you move the controle from cold to hot or vica verca you should see movement at the base of the valve. If the valve is ok its probably a sticking flap all of which are vacume actuated. The heater valve is a common problem and relativly cheep to replace.

Good luck!

I remember the flap being a little sluggish to respond on mine.

I think Bat21 was referring to the bulkhead or firewall not the dashboard or fascia, the heater control valve is, I think under the bonnet, center of the firewall.

It should look something like this:

I CANNOT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH ... I FOUND THE PICTURED ITEM AN THERE WAS A LITTLE TUBE THAT WAS DISCONNECTED AT THE TOP... THE HEAT HAS BEEN NOTICIBLE REDUCED AND I THINK THAT THE CAR WOULD BE A LITTLE WARM DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE V12 ... BUT REALLY 100% BETTER THAN BEFORE. I ONLY LOOKED AT IT TODAY BECAUSE I HAVE SOLD ME OTHER CAR, AND WILL BE DRIVING THIS CAR MOST DAYS... SO AGAIN YOUR HELP HAS BEEN THE BEST AND THANKS AGAIN !!!
