RE: Jaguar XKR escapes
Discussion
A new XK8 Conv appeared on my street last week. A street where there are 5 XKRs already.
I have to say that all of a sudden it makes the old version look very dated.
For me the jury was out on the new model in regards to looks, but the new one is an excellent step forward.
The question for me is whether to go for the new R conv or wait to see what the RR package is.
Pretty sure I will stick with Jags for at least onemore car having seen this.

Well I think the new XK range are glorious. I had a good look at and XK8 up close recently and I have to say that it was stunning. The only thing I don't like about the car is the interior sat/nav screen, that kind of looks a bit like an afterthought to me. I think a cool black edged flat screen would have looked better than the recessed item.
I can only think the XKR will look even better and I agree this photo looks like a photoshop effort and the car would be better judged in the flesh.

This car dosen't look as sharp as the old XKR. I think the grille looks rather tacky. The rest of the car is fine.
As far as power is concerned, 420bhp is just not enough any more. Jaguar's main rivals, BMW and Mercedes have raised the bar. I seriously hope, the rumoured 500bhp XKRR becomes a reality before the others move up to another dimension. As we all know, Jaguar is in serious financial trouble and if they want to attract more buyers, they have to stop following in their rivals' footsteps and start leading the way with new gadgets, an optional manual gearbox and regular engine and safety equipment upgrades.
The old XK, which replaced the XJS, was a clear winner when it was launched. The current model, good looking as it may be, has its work cut out. As it is, many people are thinking of it as a glorified Ford.
I'm a die hard Jaguar fan and hate to see my favourite marque lag behind.

It's funny really, no one thinks that of Aston, yet they parts share just as much as Jaguar do.

Weren't Astons parts bin mixures for years? When I was looking at a Virage it had this great big bunch of keys becauses all the locks came from a different manufacture. Sad really that staggerly wonderfull 5.3L 32valve V8 monster is started by the key from a Astra :-( but then playing spot the part used to be all part of the adventure of owning a SuperCar till TVR showed them that even they could make a switch.
Back on the origenal subject - I saw something the other day where some bloke from MB was saying that about 670BHP seems to be the limit at the moment. Making more is easy - no problems - but cooling the damn thing down is the limiting thing.
I'll reserve judgement on the looks till I see one, the normal XK looks so much better in the flesh than it does in piccies, I'll wait till I see a jet black XKR with cream interior before I finally decide.
