When I operate the power park door mirrors on my 98 XKR the mirrors fold in nicely. However, when I open them, the drivers mirror opens all the way until it is facing forwards rather than sticking out at right angles.

I suspect that the whole things works on friction causing the motors to stop when the mirror is at right angles and that there is insufficient friction on the drivers side. Could be talking a load of b*ll*cks here but does anyone know the answer and any simple fix?

Ford Prefect,

I am experiencing the same problem with my power fold mirrors.

What was the solution to the problem?

There is some sort of micro switch that should trigger and stop the mirror at the correct point. Dealers had to replace the motor to solve the problem. Dealers also suggested regular use would prevent this from happening.

Funny thing is that when I took it to the dealer they had to try dozens of times before the fault would occur. Couple of weeks ago the passenger side started doing the same thing but after a session of folding and unfolding it has sorted it out!! I think if you get this problem spend an exciting half an hour in your car folding and unfolding your mirrors and I suspect it will correct itself by cleaning up the switch. If not, it's a new motor which I guess includes the switch.
