Erm, mini drummer, this car has no relationship to the Rapide and virtually no resemblance to it.

The Euro Ford concept srtikes again! Is it a Ford?....is it an Aston Martin?... we just don't know..WAIT that MASSIVE badge tells us what it is, because god knows the design can't.

Fair play for embracing the future and dumping the past, but they've missed a trick and used the only one Callum knows.

Ugly 5 series can only be BMW
Bland E class can only be Mercedes
Lovely A6 can only be Audi

Cover up the messy front end, leaving the A pillars aft, and its a dead ringer for DB9/Rapide

This, despite imposing could be anything....

Who cares if it has AM looks about it? Infact for a car that probably wont even cost half the price of some AM's, surely thats a good thing?! Think of the market potential.

errr...do you work for Audi? rolleyes the best that can be said about the A6 is that is a 'neat' and 'functional' design but theres nothing desirable or 'lovely' about it!?

Nevermind, i wouldn't want Jaguar to design something so bland that everyone just 'liked' it (or anything that understeered like an A6/4/8) and it seems plenty of people on here love the design concept....

So it looks like a recent Aston Martin concept car and might cost less.

And you are saying thats a bad thing, right?

Certainly looks one beefy mother of a car to me. Possibly the front end influences that (OK I know it's another "don't like the grille moan" Must confess I'm no fan of the Audi Gaping cake-hole look.
Video on Jaguar-design site looks slick but not much time to see detail. Suggest click on "photography" for more time to study. What a basic dash layouteek !! But then probably has the essentials....

I wish they'd drop the circular jag badge and just go with the prancing jaguar on the front grill as it appears on the rear boot...

Never did like the circular badge, and simply does not fit in with the modern look being shown off here.

The Audi used to be "'neat' and 'functional'" then some idiot decided to stick that grill on it.... Oh dear... Minimalist meets guppy fish

Totally agree - Jaguar have been showing exciting concepts and even taking deposits against prototypes on new models for the past 4-5 years: none of which have ever come to fruition.

Edited to add: apart from the new XK and XJ of course - which were totally radical designs... rolleyes

whilst i agree its a shame people ended up with refunded deposits on the 'F' and they have let people down before with concepts such as F-TYPE, RD-6, R-coupe etc... i wouldnt speak to soon regarding this one

ummm. looks similar to the Ford Iosis to me.

Though please note, I liked the Iosis and it would be great if Jag built a car that looked this good.

Well Ford will certainly be building a car which looks that good - its called Mondeo...!

Hopefully this is not the first step on the slide into badge engineered styling :-(

The guys n gals at my local Jaguar dealership have told me that images of the replacement S-type have been leaked on to the Internet. They're all pretty excited about it as the S type's due to be phased out in 2008. They think XF prices should be starting at around £34,000. I've been advised to check out the 2.7 twin turbo diesel engine; so it looks like the XF will come with a range of engines a la S-type.

I love my X-type (although I don't rate the diesel versions) but I sware I'll run-over the next person who cracks a Mondeo or Rover-owner joke! The S-type is a great drive too, but I agree with many who've posted on PH that the age of Retrostyling is dead.

The XF is the way forward for Jaguar. I love the styling, and yes, it looks like an Aston Martin. But that's infinately better than looking like a block of wood that's been in an accident with a drunked chain saw operator (sorry beemer owners). And the Jaguar "leaper" on the rear end is pure class.

If it goes as good as it looks, then I'm buying one.

To all the cynics out there...I have seen the production version of this car. It's not identical to the concept car - they rarely are - but not a million miles away either - it will do well, no doubt about that. Knocks it's competitors into the ground.

Sorry chaps, but they will be building something very similar to this (XF).

edited to add: I should know - I've seen it in the metal

I've been trying to think of where the inspiration was for that awful gaping grill... at first I thought it was Danilla Westbrook but now I'm sure its the ugliest car that Ford built, the Edsel Ford.
