Hi all,

I am going to view a 2002 V6 sport (with 31,000 on the clock) this aft at a Jag dealer and would appreciate any information on the running costs. How much could i expect a service to cost and are there any known problems to look out for? Also, would you expect the launch of the new S-Type next year to have much bearing on the depreciation of the car?

One for the s-type owners: Im coming from a 225 TT roadster, completely different car i know, but do you find your s-type fun to drive and does it have much grunt if you put your foot down in 2nd or 3rd gear?

Thanks very much,

Mike

Nice car, if its a series 2? (no badge on bonnet) The first series weren't as good as they should have been. No real problems to look for, check the auto'box for lurch.

As for depreciation, all Jags drop like a stone. The S has never sold as well as it should have, mainly due to the crap car it was at launch, it now is superb, but too late! If you are keeping it for more than a couple of years, I wouldn't be too concerned as it will be in line with most other luxury sedan in terms of depreciation.

As with any used car, make sure it all works and is in good condition. If it looks shagged, it is probably not a good car to buy.

Also haggle with the Jag dealer. Pay the £2.95 and visit Glass's Guide to get a valuation. For warned is for armed. If they don't play ball you can show then the Glass's figures. There is another valuation guide called CAP which has lower valuations, so Glass's is fair. If it's a main Jag dealer, any remidial work will be part of the deal so in effect you will be paying for it, sop don't expect a huge discount. Plus it will have a £800 Jag warranty with it.

Good luck.

PS Best buy an S-type R!
