I am seriously considering a 1995 XJS 4.0L six. I have done much research and have found the following. Get nothing before 1993 or so. That is when the Ford quality control kicked in well, stopping the rust problems that plagued Jag beforehand. The 4.0L of '95 & '96 was a much improved version of the 4.0 powerplant.

The 6 cylinder cars are really good. The things I would look for other than some form of service history (and it isn't that relevent as to whether it's the dealer or the local service centre) with regular oil changes.

It would be worth checking the clutch on a manual version, but aside from things that you'd have checked on an MOT, there really isn't anything to go wrong. They really are good cars.

You are giving me confidence on my possible '95 XJS GP. It looks as if I might get them down to around $5,500 early this week.
