The side vents are my work but I was only following orders! Actually, in the flesh, it doesnt look too bad as has been mentioned, but whether it needed it is another matter. I've always liked the look of the old car. Shame nobody else did.

Might look better in a dark colour. I suspect its only been done because of the criticism that despite being a great drive with a beautiful interior and a most smooth ride that it looks "old fashioned"

Here's what they needed to do

-the front was fine

-the back needed to be lowered (espcially the boot lid and roofline) to give it a more pouncing cat like stance

-The rear number plate needed lowereing and centralising in the vertical plane

-Looking down on the car, the rear lights etc were very flat-this needed a bit of curve (a la S type and XK)

The interior needed scrapping-the dash should have been covered in leather and all cheap and nasty brittle black plastic needed changing

The emissions on the petrol models are appalling and needed refining (the new 530i pertol is 180g/km compared to 240 for the 3.0 litre XJ!

All models should be fitted with 19" alloys with the suspension designed to cope...

Love the side vents and thats it!

Does anybody really still buy these things???

Seems like a waste of money to me, no wonder Ford are going bust....

If you want a big luxury saloon then what are your alternatives; BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S class, Audi A8 or a Lexus 430.

It would make it onto my list.

I realise this is a stop gap as new major tooling has to wait for a new car but ... really what were they thinking?

First poster summed up what I thought when I looked - Max Power!

Don't mind the little side vents though.

The Jag saloons have always been handsome but this looks bad (and not in the modern idiom where 'bad' = 'good'!)

Design head Ian Callum said: "Every Jaguar must have a distinctive face, something that you cannot mistake if you catch a glimpse of it in your rear-view mirror as it powers up behind you. The new 2008 XJ range meets that challenge thanks to a new grille and bold new bumper style."

That 'refresh' was a waste of time. It looks like a painting of one former home secretary done by his predecessor. those wing mirrors look huge!

Looks like a 300c SRT8 lower grille and fog lamps. I didnt realise Jag liked to share the parts bin with Chrysler now... looks like they really are strapped for cash poor b*****ds

That front bumpr just doesnt go with the car. Looks like a max power stick on jobbie.

EXACTLY my first impression - what idiot designed and passed this piece of junk off for production??! - Makes Bangle look an absolute genius!!

Also very concerned in the direction they are going with new S Class

A vast majority of mature respected designers worldwide agree that the classic Jaguar evolution is at the height of the profession - till now...................

...not quite sure if its current 3 series M sport version - but it look so similar to the one on the E39 M5. Nice to see them taking a leaf out of the BMW book - albeit 8 years too late.

Why can't they try and do something really imaginative. They did it with the XK and it looks great why go backwards now?

Does it come with light-up blue neon washer jets just to finish the look off laugh

I don't know what market this car is aimed at now, the 'gentleman' looking for an executive express isn't going to be too impressed by the Max-Power look bumper and grille and buyers looking for a sporty big saloon..well most of them aren't going to buy a big Jag are they? The man looking for the combination of a luxury saloon with sporting looks is probably going to pop straight down to his nearest BMW showroom and stick his money on a 5 series with M-Kit IMHO.

Well no one is going to buy a 5series on it's looks are they vomit it's another Bangle Bungle. What were they thinking of.
Still I suppose it looks better than the 7, which is much more likely to be the competitor to an XJ. 5s are a bit sales boy.

The problem with that view is that the brake disks look much too small. They need to fill the view through the wheels.
