You can also appreciate better just how awful those flaps on the side are. I've always been a bit of a closet Jaguar fan but this seems to have cured it.

Utterly terrible. Why change a retro car with rounded form and stick square bumpers on it. It looks so much like the car it replaced, even more so than before. Do like the XJ overal.

The more I see Ian Callums work, the more overrated I think he is. In my opinion his Brother is the real talent in the family.

I think its a great car, but this is not an improvement. I saw a 'Lister-Jaguar' XJS the other day and this reminds me of the grossly inelegant big carbuncles added front and back to a basically quite elegant shape. This should put off everybody bar the boy racers.

Nope, still looks cack. Seems that the Ford influence is finally getting to the exterior of the car as opposed to just the switch gear... stick on bits from the Mustang = 'new' XJ!

I used to love the Jags, before the brand got diluted by the 'X-type FWD Mondeo in drag' and the XJ got all pregnant. And now the XJ has undergone styling by Halfords... Also the dealerships provide dreadful service - I got spoilt when I went to a Lexus I suppose!

The front Bumper/Grille look absolutely ghastly, The front bumper looks more to me like a rear bumper. Not really one of Ian Callum's finest jobs.

Instead of restyling the XJ wouldn't it make more sense for Jaguar to give the ageing X-Type a facelift? Afterall its one of the best selling models in the range, and it's somewhat out classed by it's 'German' rivals.

At least the front of the XJ now has a slight differentiation from the front of the X-Type. From the front the two models look almost identical, not pleasing if you've spent upwards of £42k.

Yep, completely lost the plot. Stand next to a C Type and see what can be done in a couple of weeks by someone with talent.

Jaguars should be elegent. This isn't. The X300 looked very tidy & svelte against a rather crass 7 Series. The older 7 looking like a widened 5 and the Bangle 7 looking all out of sorts with the wrong bootlid fitted. The X350 looked good as well, slightly more butch but still elegent. Has this been to Halfords?

Matter of opinion I suppose. And apart from a fantasy garage; you drive?

I love XJ's and don't think this update is entirely out of keeping with this design of the car as it is modern albeit retro, but maybe they could have reserved these revisions for a 'sport' model and/or the XJR. Not sure it suits the caracture of the soveriegn for instance. I do feel however that a mark like Jaguar should buck the trend of those bulky modern designs and keep the shape more elegant with the XJ, they've other models to offer contrast to this.

Look on the bright side, the pre-facelift should drop in price a bit and become more affordable!!

The car i would like would be an X-Type running the V8 via rear bias 4WD, more luxurious trim, most importantly a 2 DOOR PILLAR-LESS COUPE, and swaged wheel arches - not just lips, but not as extreme as the Avengers modded coupe (i LOVED that as a young lad..)- option of a very large photochromatic glass roof panel, flappy paddle auto box and professional stereo install (with foldaway large HD multimedia screen) .........mmmmmmmmm

Whoever signed off the styling of the XJ and S type range ought to have nightmares and wear a disguise in public - being so cautious completely misread the mood and direction of the market. Jaguar are hobbled with too-conservative styling and it risks ruining them for good.

This could go down as a case study of "terrible decisions which led to a great company's demise".

Lets hope they can hang on until the new range comes through, assuming Ford can wait that long. Now't wrong with the cars underneath though ! The XJ is a better car than the equivalent BMW - even though few buyers are bothered to find out !
