Have any members had difficulties with Jaguar Extended Warranty claims?
There are items in the forums about the cost of cover but I can't see anything about peoples experiences when they have to claim.

I have a 2 year extension, thinking of adding another 2 years from the end of this month. This is a Jag warranty as opposed to some independent company. During the period of the extension I have had a new gearbox,r ear wheel bearings, and a new steering column under the warranty, no problem whatsoever.

I recently had a convertible hose replacement done for my 2005 XKR due to leaking hydraulic fluid at the latch. While hoses are supposed to be excluded from the Select Edition warranty, Jaguar gave the okay to replace so I am pleased so far.

Should be no issues with a Jag warranty. I thought I read somewhere that Jag had sold its extended warranty business to a 3rd Party?

They have, mine is due for renewal this year, had a couple of quotes from different dealers, the one I bought the car from down south and my local dealer in the Midlands, not sure how the system is working as they seem to be from different warranty companies but my local dealer is cheaper by a long way and the guys in the service dept said it's a good warranty and covers the same as the old Jaguar one so i'll pop in later this week and get it renewed.

I think that there is one available through the JEC. I can't remember the details of who provides it but I know you could get non-Jags included as well. This covered older cars.

johnboy,

As I said in my post above, I am likely to extend my warranty this month. It is already extended by two years (so 5 in all to the end of December). I recently asked the JMD I use about frequency of extensions and I was told I can extend on a yearly basis for up to a maximum of 10 years from when the car was first registered. Also, any extension has to be done before the current warranty expires...go a day over and no extension will be permitted.

Looks like you're past the 10 year period for the Jaguar warranty. Maybe there are independent warranties available for older cars.

I had a warranty from Warranty Direct for the last 12 months I owned my XJR, big mistake, Jaguar warranty no issues on any claims, Warranty Direct cover cost me an extra £1100 when the oil cooler fell over, no claims were covered for any consequential costs, so even though the oil cooler was covered the dealer couldn't undo the pipework, so it required 5 hours extra labour and the associated new pipework. Lesson I learned was Jaguar warranty might be twice the price but is 10 times the product to any other "independent" warranty.

A Jaguar is a complicated, fairly specialised car, and if your running an XJR it has the added issues associated with any high performance vehicle. IMHO if your running a Jaguar you need a warranty and if you need a warranty get a Jaguar approved one.

By the way, under th JMD warranty, any replacement parts are only covered up to the end of the general warranty. Don't assume that replacement parts have their own warranty period. In other words, if you have a part replaced, and your warranty runs out in 6 months, and the replacement part fails after a year, that part will not be warrantied at all.

Of course, you'll have a strong case that the replacement part was not fit for purpose if it fails reasonably soon.

I extended jag warranty on my xkr for £1700 earlier this year. i've been thinking about if its worth extending again next year when the time comes.
so far i've had a couple of front bushes done under warranty. thats it..

i could have had alot more done if the dealer actually bothered to follow the warranty procedure.. i spoke to the warranty company about what is and isn't covered and was amazed at how small the exclusion list actually is. BUT it is up to the dealer to make a case to the warranty company. a case in point the ariel mast wouldn't extended/retract fully, the dealer told me that the warranty company wouldn't be paying for the repair due to 'wear and tear'. it was only later on when i started to think about the warranty and its worth that i phoned up and asked a few questions regarding various bits only to be told that the ariel is fully covered (eg long as its not bent its covered). the company even looked it up on the system and found out the dealer took the path of least resistance in only filling out the online form with very basic info. the data showed no details of what condition the ariel mast was in and hence the reason why it was rejected. Warranty company told me that every dealer is told to phone for conformation on why it is rejected but if the form is filled in correctly it is usually covered.. if these simple steps are not taken then it will automatically be rejected on grounds not enough information. cut a long story short, i was told by the warranty company to phone the dealer back up and ask why the ariel wasn't covered and mention the conversation with the warranty company as they had logged the call as a issue with previous work.. i put the question to the chap at the dealership to have my called returned with a very nervous voice.. 'i can't find the paper work.. but if i recall the ariel mast was damaged or bent and thats why it was rejected'. the ariel was never damaged or bent. it was dirty.. i would clean it every so often to find it would work for a few days then stop again..

sorry for the long post.. imho the warranty is only as good as the dealers service..

i don't use that particular dealership anymore..

Warranty Wise seemed great UNTIL I had to make a claim. They required specific part numbers from the dealer and replied by saying as the specific parts were not list on the policy they were not covered. These were parts I had never heard of but had believed were a subset of the areas in the policy. I would now never buy an extended warranty unless it is from the manufacturer.

Sorry if I'm hijacking this post.
Dnwilliams do you mine me asking who is your dealer in the Midlands. I've just bought a 2003 4.2 and need a recommended mechanic. I live in Stratford on Avon.
Thanks,
George

Bought a used XJ through Guy Samon 10 months ago with Jaguar approved warranty, it developed a fault last month where the car goes into restricted performance. Diagnosed as Rocker cover issue and cost of repair around £2,000 and told it is not covered as 3 years ago it had a recall for this that wasn't done, even though has a full service history and was checked and approved under the approved scheme. So might as well save money and buy from non approved dealers as how can a purchaser know that the approved Jaguar hasn't had a safety recall, only Jaguar and the dealers know this, just a scam, save money and buy non approved!

Ouch, not acceptable. Which oart of the warranty policy says this. Quick call to a lawyer required, or protest in dealership. Where did the car come from befire you? If suppllied and serviced by same dealer, I think they should support your car. I'm sure you won't take this and go quietly. #shocking
