Has anyone spotted this XJC that appeared at Meguiars Motorex 2023 last weekend? The quality of the build is mind blowing!

The car was built by Exclusive Customs in Australia and the wheels are 18x9.5 apparently.

I remember mine being a stripped bare shell full of holes. If it’s ok to ask what budget do you have? Just thinking if the xjc can wear 9.5jx18’s why fit wider lister wheel arches? Sitting low on standard shaped wheel arches suits the xjc perfectly smile
Hi RobXjcoupe, the shell isn’t too terrible, but saying that, I bought the car in about 1987 with 47k miles and even by then it had new outer sills, fibreglass front wings and welded in rear arches, but after another 3 years of daily use most of the bottom six inches of the car were gone. as for the budget umm, many thousands to replace the rusted panels before any other progress…

Hi Rob, is yours a Daimler or Jaguar?
If it’s a Daimler, I do have a NOS grill shell.

Shell returned from the team at www.envirostripgbltd.com and looks great, considering it’s a 1970s Built car. Rust in the usual areas but not too bad.

Time to get it onto the Celette jig and check alignment before chopping out the rusted panels.

Hi Rob,
Yes, as you say, the rust is so much easier to deal with with the shell being bare and dipped. I have been planning this build for quite a few years and have managed to collect a set of Jaguar NOS panels to remove the rusted panels and replace with new. The shell will be braced and rebuilt on a dedicated Celette body jig to ensure zero distortion of the shell.
As for the build the idea is to replicate one of the original wide-bodied Lister cars.

A truly stunning car. If I can get my replica close to this I will be over the moon! When the car Jag53c is restoring is complete, they’ll make an eye-wateringly gorgeous pair….

Body of coupe bolted down to the jig for the first (and last) time. All panel gaps checked using bolt on panels to ensure we have no errors. Now we can start the slow process of removing the rusted panels with NOS panels. Once this little job is out of the way, we think about widening the wings and quarter panels.

Oops, sorry been a bit slow on updates, so here we go.
The chaps at RestoShack have been busy. Once the car was bolted down to the build jig to hold all the datum’s correctly, the removal of the rusty panels started. The first job to tackle was to replace the drivers side rear chassis leg assembly. First the rear quarter panel needed to come off:

Hi Jag53c,
Thanks for the comment. We’ve made further progress now and have the passenger side built to the same stage as the drivers side. I will attempt to post images when I can. The next stage will be to rebuild the boot floor, rear valance/fuel tank areas and build the rear wheel tubs.
The YouTube video is a good find. We did some work to see if we could get the Jag V8 in, but concluded that there were too many compromises. It looks a great project, but I would be concerned over the engine placement which appears quite forward? But, it may be no issue when on the road.
Hopefully your project is OK.
