This looks like a pretty cool under axle set up. Albeit it would not be possible to jack the car up using the centre diff plate but still a pretty cool piece of engineering rather than weaving oversize pipes through the irs.

Gets bigger bore tubes to the back. Bit of a pain for access to the rear brakes though.

and ground clearance was never the best, so does this make it significantly worse.

That was my thought. Don't know about the series XJs, but the X300's ground clearance is only a tad over 4", mine would ground in all sorts of places without having any hanging down underneath.

Harrys Garage XJC Restoration should be interesting to follow its progress.

My coupe went there for work about ten years ago. I wasn’t impressed with the quality and add insult to injury a seized engine due to no coolant after being drained to remove the radiator for a repair to the front inner wing. I got about 2 miles down the road. Kieth couldn’t help as he was off on holiday within a couple of hours so didn’t have time to help.

As an XJ owner I've watch Harry and his coupe with great interest, as most of the stuff he has done to his I have done to mine or will be doing (manual box). I had the body work on my XJ done about 15 years ago, initially it was quoted as just a £5k job...biggrin but these things spiral out of control once you start removing body work and scratch the surface, in the end with new front and rear glass, new chrome, lights, handles, gaskets, rubbers, valances, etc etc etc etc etc etc . my final figure was closer to £20k and that was back then.. I think the price quoted to Harry was £15 - £20K..... Not a chance bro... Harry wont want to fit pitted chrome so all of that need to be taken in to consideration, so once they take the engine out and cleaned, the seals done, all the new rad, new mounts, rack, all cleaned and refurbished so he can open the bonnet at the odd show, etc etc etc Harry will be lucky to spend this side of £30k. I have now done my engine bay and it took me months to get it ready to accept the new engine and I'm still not 100% happy with my work... but at least its done and protected for the next 30 years.

You have done well with the engine bay. Luckily my car is a straight six so a little more forgiving than a v12. Silver series 2 xj’s look lovely as it complements the chrome perfectly. What colour interior? I’m thinking red perhaps?

The silver engine bay is a credit to you it looks stunning. I have forgotten how many things get fixed back to the inner wings. But it’s definitely looking a top job so far.

Thanks Guys, didn't want to hijack the thread...
RobXjcoupe, I once saw a silver SII with Red velour, it was well tasty....
Jag53c, I wish I had put a light in the engine bay and assessed all the holes in the side wall from the wheel well.... should've welded up all of the holes that are unused... but thanks, I have been lucky to have the space and time and mates that have helped me along the way, I could've prepped the engine bay to a better standard but once the lump is in I know I will be the only one who knows...oh and you guys as well..
Offered up the fly wheel and starter motor... check clearance on the bell housing... I have done all I can do now,

Going to give it to Tom Lethal now to finish her off.. not long now....

Just had a watch of that. Getting that back together again for a June car show is a tad ambitious. That garage isn’t exactly teeming with people. I would worry possible corners would be cut or details missed because of a deadline to put the car back together. So it needs a bottom end rebuild on the engine. Then detailed. The body will show all its dodgy repairs once blasted. Leaving the sills on because they look ok on the outside is a false economy. Where the rear quarters meet the sill is a double flange which loves to collect condensation. These xj’s had no inner panel protection from new. They are not complicated to work on. Just needs a bit of thought. With the sills off, the inners can be checked/repaired and then coated before new outers go on. Then with the body flipped the floors can be thoroughly cleaned back to metal again checking for rust and repaired accordingly. I bet there is a hole on one of the box sections at the front hidden previously by an exhaust pipe and that’s where the mouse hopped in. Mine had a similar mouse house lol

Yes let’s see what the situation is after the sand blasting takes place as it takes no prisoners with tin worm. And I agree no way that car will be back on the road anytime soon. I agree that no reason for any corners to be cut which I am sure will not happen. I think it is great if the profile of these cars can be raised by this exposure. And the more that are properly restored will help the values. It will be interesting what colour Harry chooses to paint the car, in my mind always a bit of a no no to change colour but hey ho. It will be a very nice stock factory rebuild with a manual gearbox?

Honestly I’m not in either camp that a car is best stock or modified. I appreciate the level of detail that’s involved in completing either. Finding new old stock parts or one off modded parts or a collection of both. I think it’s all interesting. With Harry’s car it’s intriguing as I assume it’s a massive lump of money being spent very quickly.
