I've got an infant carrier in the back of my XKR, though it does compromise my driving position a bit, and I'm no giant at 5'8". Forward facing seats are easier to manage though, so for a 1 year old you should be fine. Haven't experimented with which is best yet though...

Excellent.

Out of interest what seat is it?

My maxi-cosi cabriofix fitted in the back of my coupe 0-12 months rear facing seat. Passenger seat had to be fully forward tho, but for a few months it was OK

I believe the older xk's had more space in the back?

It's a Cybex Aton - Mamas and Papas are the UK dealer for them but htey have turned up on Halfords' website for cheaper occasionally. It's a good, light, solid seat, but it set us back around £250 with the isofix base.

Be advised though - it's not a panacea; I have short legs for my 5'8" and the driving position is very sub-optimal - but something I'm willing to tolerate for six months so that I can keep the Jag until group 1 time...

So you are going to tell it after that?

Sorry, I got the impression you will be selling the car when your child progressed to group 2.

I bought an XKR recently and have been pleasantly surprised by how practical it is! I have 3 kids of 2, 5 and 9 and they all fit with no problems. I'm 6'2 and my kids are similarly long. The 2 year old sits behind me in his car seat, I put the seat forward a little to give him a bit more space but not so much that it's uncomfortable. The 5 and 9 year olds are interchangeable (whoever calls shotgun first!).

With some fiddling I've found a seat position which allows someone my height to sit in the front, while I sit in the back and put the seatbelt on. It's not comfortable but it is legal and can be done if necessary.

We also have a sensible Citroen family car, so on a long trip we use that. The rest of the time, we roar!

Wow, impressive. Although legally speaking shouldn't they all be in some sort of child or booster seats?

Can I ask what car seat you have for your youngest? Is it a belt-in type or ISOFIX?

We have managed to get a rear-facing baby seat on the back seat behind the passenger. Slide the front passenger seat forwards, put the baby seat in place, then wind the front passenger seat backwards and it crunches up against the baby seat, helping to hold it down and in place very securely.
I found the smallest car seat on the market in the UK is the Cuggl Chaffinch (which is also very cheap to buy). This DOES fit in the back and has the minimum adverse effect on the legroom for a toddler. Sometimes a child will have more legroom when they have grown bigger (counter-intuitively) because their upper leg will then be long enough that their lower leg can drop down into the footwell (rather than their whole leg being stretched out horizontally.

The other seat I found good is a booster seat (that has no back so it does not reduce the leg room available) -we use the Bubble Bum inflatable seat https://www.bubblebum.co/

I am 6' tall and could just about still fit in and drive OK with the front seat wound well forwards (to give max leg room in the rear).
